I plan to finally spray them with Testors' Dullcote, but would like to know what sealer to put on first.

Thanks.

I think those are one of the few figures that would do better with a gloss coat than a matte coat.

Do a test piece with whatever you decide to use. I coated a bunch of WWI biplanes with Future floorwax. After allowing two days to dry I sprayed them with Dullcote. Some turned very dark. I asked about this and was told that Dullcote reacts differently with different paints. I dont understand how this can happen when the paints were sealed with the Future but it did.

I use Krylon 1303 which is a gloss sealer. It never yellows and protects VERY well. I give all my models two light coats with this and then one shot of a dulling spray. Done!

You might try the Plaid brand Acrylic Matte Sealer. It's a tad bit glossy, no matter what the outside label claims! Still works, I usually hit mine with a quick dash of Dullcote to take out any shine.

When spraying with a can, I like Krylon UV Resistant Matte followed by Krylon UV Resistant Matte. Krylon is readily available at Hobby Lobby and Michaels, and the frequent 40% coupons off make for a good buy.

Agreed on the Krylon UV or other Krylon…I use the crystal clear on my larger projects without issue.

I think I'd go with gloss coat as mentioned above. these guys look like the aliens from "Aliens" movie. They should be slimy and shiny.

I use Dullcote & Krylon/UV … But for those … I agree a gloss coat …

Testor's Glosscote (or whatever they call it now), or the Krylon. Krylon should be cheaper.

future floor finish with a teny tiny little bit of interference powder so they shift colors in the light

Hmm

Ok then . . . if I were to go glossy on the figures, how could I go matte on the bases?

Brush on Clear Flat from Polly's or Modelmaster …

Cacique Caribe16 Apr 2009 4:48 p.m. PST

Ahhh. I'll do that this very weekend. Thanks, Legion!

And I guess that, from now on, whenever I paint these xenomorphs I should spray on the sealer/gloss before I add the sand and gravel to bases.

Right?

Shouldn't make a difference. The sealer will just help hold the base texture in place if you spray afterward.
