I've narrowed down a search for a decent P38 Lightning to Skytrex, Scotia and Navwar.

Which is the best model in terms of accuracy, quality of casting and detail?

Thanks

I prefer Scotia. I do not own any, I got a couple of Navwar in a lot of miniatures I bought on e-bay. Here is a link to the Navwar P-38 of mine.

I like the Scotias also, though it's been a long time since I've seen the Skytrex or Navwar.

The Scotia model is quite nice and seems to have better lines around the front of the engine nacelles than the navwar one above. I don't have any close ups of that particular aircraft, but you can see it from various angles in the last game report on my blog ( link ).

I saw that game on another post. I greatly admire your planes and especially the Beaufighters.

I've got 8 from R/H. Wish I had picked up the Scotia version.

Good guy to get them from is I-94 Enterprises.

Thanks,

The Beaufighters came out very well I thought.

Scotia's are more accurate than Navwar's. The supercharger intakes (?) on both sides of the fuselage in Navwar's sculpture are less prominent than they should be for a P-38J model. More like a P-38F or G.

However, if you're prepared to spend $4.25 USD per plane, GHQ's P-38Js (1/285) are the best crafted. Better than Scotia's, which are pretty good. The cockpit glass is well receded (bas-relief), excellent aileron, engine panel lines, radiator and supercharger intake detail. The downside is how expensive they are, and that the wings outside the engine must be glued on. Do this with epoxy, not Krazy Glue, and even then do try not to drop the mini ever! Even epoxied on, the wing will become a bit loose after a fall.

They sell for $10 USD a pack of two, but warweb.com sells them at $8.45:

I myself have a few GHQ P-38Js for the really special planes, and am currently painting some Soctias for the more coloquial planes. They are a bit smaller, but only just so much. They really do not look smaller when side to side, and the shape is very similar. You have to lay one on top of the other to notice the size difference.

Jim, mine are Navwar and you can see pics on the club website. They are pretty decent models and will do for me until Raiden get around to producing some.
