I bought the Through the Mud and Blood rules and think I might actually get my brother to play this game. The problem is I have no 15mm WWI minis. What figures should I be looking at to build an army and what about character figs for the Big Men?

Blind Old Hag Fezian13 Apr 2009 8:06 p.m. PST

I think the best are from Peter Pig. peterpig.co.uk/range16.htm

The British range has a unique pack called Sportsmen that could be used for Big Men. Any figure will do for Big Men so long as you can tell them from the rankers.

I second Peter Pig, but Eureka also have a cool range if you like the other fronts

My WW1 15s are a mix of Peter Pig, Minifigs and Irregular.

For 'Big Men' just use an individually based officer or nco figure.

I also use Minifigs and Peter Pig.

MInifigs, Peter Pig and Irregular (infantry only – the horses are too big to mix with the others).

All my WW1 is Minifig.

My germans are old school minifigs – kinda chunky

my Brits are Command Decision WWII – as they didn't change much & work fine

I prefer Peter Pig figs but . . . in the USA they are a bit pricey. So I buy the masses from a USA producer and use the Peter Pig figures (generally sold 8 to a pack) to fill in gaps or special figures.

Guess I should state I don't game WWI in 15mm but I do game WWII in 15mm. I know more than a few folks that do have 15mm WWI and have seen / played with these figs.

@ Martin Rapier

How do you rate the compatibility of PP, Minifigs and QRF together?

mashrewba26 Jul 2009 4:17 a.m. PST

I've got QRF SCW and they are much larger -nice though.
I use Peter Pig and Minifigs in mixed units.
The Minifigs Early war German infantry are hard to beat -in fact they are superb.
I love the Early war British too but I find the ankles can be a liitle weak, not a problem for the Hun as they have big hefty boots on.
Peter Pig figs have solid rifles which makes them good robust wargame figs -especially if you are going to mount them as singles – and there'is much much more variety of pose.
There are even head packs to increase the the variety even further.

Peter Pig is my favourite range by far. The late war (WWII) Germans and British are superb and I'm sure their WWI range is equally good.

Hrotgar has already mentioned Eureka and these are very good as well, and mix perfectly with PP.

It doesn't really matter ,if you're doing skirmish type stuff but the Minifigs artillery is the dogs nadgers and ultra cheap.
3 guns of the highest quality for £2.00 GBP and the crews are fantastic!!!!!!!!
