Whole series less than $19. USD Double-sided DVDs! (Great series if you have not seen it) In addition, they had the whole "Firefly" Series for the same price.

Cacique Caribe13 Apr 2009 9:15 a.m. PST

Got mine earlier in the year. Excellent buy, guys. Go for it!

I have the show and enjoyed watching it but I thought it was incredibly stupid to suggest that they would use highly experienced fighter pilots as ground troops…it takes a lot more skill and training to be a pilot. Something that isn't easily replaced if they are lost.

Irish Marine13 Apr 2009 10:03 a.m. PST

I think the pilots were almost like dragoons than anything else.

Only Warlock13 Apr 2009 10:17 a.m. PST

bjporter, Every U.S. Marine (Including Marine aviators)is a Riflemen first and is trained in that manner.

I can imagine a future where there are relatively few soldiers armed with a vast array of technology and significant training to accomplish what would in the past have been accomplished by Company-sized assets. Particularly if you figure stellar warfare where there is limited ability to project manpower into space.

Just a thought.

Cacique Caribe,

You are EVIL*. evil grin

Here I am all over the new War of the Ring and thinking of nothing but that and you HAD to post a link so some fine looking 15mm Sci-Fi! A company that also has some forthcoming GRAV tanks that look great too. This of course led me to a search for opponents which I found

Here: link
And Here: link

Now, what rules do I use? grin

* I mean that in a good way of course. Hopefull one day I can return the favor you've done me with this. I HAD to click on the links…

Only Warlock13 Apr 2009 12:03 p.m. PST

Never seen either show (Firefly or Above and Beyond), don't even know what they are about.

Should I look into it?

The G Dog Fezian13 Apr 2009 1:56 p.m. PST

Yes and No.

For all its potential, S:AAB never grabbed me the way that Firefly did.

Cacique Caribe13 Apr 2009 1:57 p.m. PST

Smokey,

Synopsis of Space: Above And Beyond:

In the years leading up to 2063, humanity has begun to colonize other planets. Without warning, a previously unknown alien species, the "Chigs", attack and destroy Earth's first extra-solar colony and then destroy a second colony ship. The bulk of the Earth military forces sent to confront the Chigs are destroyed or outflanked. In desperation, unproven and under-trained outfits like the 58th "Wildcards" are thrown against the Chigs. The Wildcards are the central focus of the series, which follows them as they grow from untried cadets into veterans. Although the unified Earth forces come under the control of a reformed United Nations, the UN has no armed forces of its own and therefore navies such as the U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy operate interstellar starships.

The Space: Above and Beyond milieu includes an underclass race of genetically engineered and artificially gestated humans who are born at the physical age of 18, and are collectively known as In Vitroes or sometimes, derogatorily, "tanks" or "nipple-necks". The In Vitroes have replaced the previous underclass, the artificial intelligences known as Silicates. These human-looking androids, referred to as "walking personal computers", have rebelled, formed their own societies, and wage a guerrilla war against human society. The Silicates are also suspected of having some involvement with the Chigs.

For a taste, here's the first portion (first 8 minutes) of the 2-hour pilot:

We may end up getting 15mm Non-Chigs sometime soon:

Smokey, given your tastes I think you should REALLY pick it up. (We seem to have similar tastes)and actually, for this price particularly I can highly recommend both Firefly and Space:AAB.

Smokey Roan13 Apr 2009 2:07 p.m. PST

Way cool. How did I miss that?

Will go to Sam's in the morrow.

Thanks! :)

I loved the show, but never got to see all the episodes. And yeah, it ends in a cliffhanger that is never resolved— another casualty of Fox executives' inability to understand how to market, time slot, and manage a top-notch science fiction series.

I am getting this!

Honcho13 Apr 2009 2:58 p.m. PST

Kristen Cloke… Top of my wife's poop list. : )

I hope Costco gets this too!

JRacel13 Apr 2009 8:10 p.m. PST

More people need to see this series even if it so fewer people see my Wildcards T-Shirt and ask me if I play poker. When you try and explain its the units patch for a Marine outfit from a TV series in the early 90's their eyes glaze over and they don't quite get it . . . . oh well, I got my Boxed set the first day it went on sale at BestBuys a few years back. Well worth the money!

I have the DVD box set but it's from the US. Can someone tell me why it was NEVER released here in the UK.

Caius Virilius Orca14 Apr 2009 6:15 a.m. PST

Thanks CC.

You are REALLY going to hate me now

I've moved on from hate to admiration. grin

Amazon lists it for $19.99, for those of us who don't have Sam's Club "memberships." (I hate store "memberships.")

Farstar14 Apr 2009 9:24 a.m. PST

Sam's Club is part of the Walmart empire. Check Walmart.

Thanks Farstar, that was what I was just going to ask. No Sam's Club here in Washington.

Cacique Caribe19 Apr 2009 3:56 p.m. PST

I'm watching mine tonight!!! The pilot and a couple of episodes, at least.

My wife mailed me a care package that includes the set I bought a few weeks ago.
