I read on a recent blog that HAT was going to produce a SYW range. Does anyone have any information on this? When we might start seeing the product, generic infantry, etc.?

thanks,

Possibly, but sounds like it might have been confused with Zvezda's announcement of a set called "Prussian Grenadiers of Frederick the Great". I hope not though since HaT SYW figures would be welcome.

Well HaT are showing off rough masters on their site at the moment, so hopefully something might appear this year

I saw the masters on their forums, I was hoping someone might know something about make-up of sprues, dates of release etc. They look very nice by the way.

Will they be soft or hard plastic?

soft

Had a look at the (confusingly organised) HaT forum, and indeed they are doing Prussians.
Presumably they are going to be in soft plastic. Intriguingly they have a listing for hard plastic 15mm figures for release in 2009, no info on the subject though.

I hope they do Austrians, soon after, Austrian uniforms seem to me to be the generic SYW uniform for imaginations and most smaller states. If anyone hears of a release date please restart this thread.

thanks,

15mm hard plastic historicals will be sweet when they finally arrive on the scene!

I dont think they have made a decision on what nation they are going to do first…But hopefully it wont be Prussians with Zvesda doing them as well

Personally, I hope Zvesda does get involved, as their figures are consistently first rate. HAT's figures are usually good, but they have some real losers, too: see their Nubians and German East African Askaris--hopefully their SYW will not be of that quality. I was disappointed (along with everyone else) when the Revell sets were discontinued, but really only the Austrian sets and the Prussian hussars were good figures; the Prussian infantry set was mediocre at best.

Chris – the quality of Hat's latest products has been getting better and better, and from the masters it appears that the "better" sculptor is working on these. I know HaT have acknowledged that some of their older production cannot compete with the newer stuff, but they have stuck in their and for that they deserve our support.

For example, and the metal boys go very quite on this point, I recently picked up their Napoleonic field forge and medical wurst wagon sets, and am waiting for the pontoon and ambulances. Austrian limbers are coming too. There are a lot of metal manufacturers out there who struggle to produce this level of support.
