One Day Without Boo Boo04 Apr 2009 9:16 a.m. PST

Recommendations on which ones to go for, and which to avoid?

Coelacanth193804 Apr 2009 9:54 a.m. PST

The Zombie Diaries (2006) is without a doubt, the worst zombie film I've ever seen. It's the first DVD I ever tried to return for a refund.

manatic04 Apr 2009 10:08 a.m. PST

The first three Romero films (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead) are ace, the fourth one (Land of the Dead) is ok, the fifth (Diary of the Dead) is rubbish.

The Dawn of the Dead remake is excellent, too.

28 days later and its sequel 28 weeks later are both well worth watching.

Shaun of the Dead – the romantic zombie comedy is ace.

The first two Resident Evil (Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse) films are ok in my book. The third one, Extinction is awful.

The Spanish movie Rec is excellent and creepy.

Dead Meat is a bit silly, but a nice film nonetheless!

Peter Jackson's splatter comedy Braindead! is pretty fun, and Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror is much in the same vein.

This should get you started!

Angel Barracks04 Apr 2009 10:16 a.m. PST

28 days later films are good.

Resident evil are good but IMO to get worse as they go along.

Shaun of the dead is amusing :)

Coelacanth193804 Apr 2009 10:29 a.m. PST

The 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead is pretty good. The director Tom Savini really did a lot of work on making his Zeds look and act realistic (He got in a bit of trouble because he used concentration camp inmates as makeup reference).

jgawne04 Apr 2009 10:39 a.m. PST

I forget the name of the worst one I ever sw. It was so bad it almost made it to the "good" catagory. It had the black wheelchair ridden son of the President in it- which some rather moronic "special forces" types trying to get the Prez's family to some secret shelter. Which I think was some old WW2 era cement gun mounting in Hawaii.

Made by two brothers. Oh yeah the Knott brothers- so that their production company is "Knott Entertainment"

And let me tell you, it is Not!

I've altually decided that in an odd way the Day of the Triffids is the precurser to Zombie films and should not be overlooked. The Book is better that the 1st two films, second film is OK. 1st is alright but showing its age. But I am really excited about the new one coming out with Eddie Izzard.

ming3104 Apr 2009 11:05 a.m. PST

My god friend loves Bad movies …there are sooo many I cannot name them all but B films ty C and D films …

cloudcaptain04 Apr 2009 11:13 a.m. PST

Having seen both Rec and the American remake Quarantine….I actually liked the latter better. REC is more subtle in not showing the monsters as often but does not feel as genuine as Quarantine does. IMHO of course.

Striker04 Apr 2009 11:37 a.m. PST

Nobody recommended Zombie Strippers?

GypsyComet04 Apr 2009 11:49 a.m. PST

The Australian movie "Undead" is worth a watch. It may not be worth a repeat, being something of a "gotcha" film, but one viewing is called for.

Lord Hypnogogue04 Apr 2009 12:01 p.m. PST

Zombie.

There's a shark vs zombie fight.

And an eyeball-piercing scene that still gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Good or bad? It's worth a watch.

Black Autumn Productions04 Apr 2009 6:10 p.m. PST

The Return Of The Living Dead…is one of the Rare Zombie stories out there, it is almost the BEST EVER Made.

It is the first undead story EVER to to have Fast Zeds, and good hereos who act the way I think many people would, if they had to fight The Undead…for real.

1 to 10, IMO this is a 9.5

I agree that GAR's first 3 films are also VERY Good…if you like Zombies then you must see them.

the one with Linnea Quigley dancing naked on a grave is pretty good.. ;-)

TheDreadnought04 Apr 2009 8:05 p.m. PST

I wasn't impressed with 28 days later, although 28 weeks later was excellent.

I thought the 2003 Dawn of the Dead was great.

Shaun of the Dead is hilarious.

The first Resident Evil is also good.

Michael B05 Apr 2009 3:54 p.m. PST

Shockwave…SS zombies..can't be beat.

Undead was interesting…

House of the Dead--not so good

House of the Dead was lousy without question.

Kampfgruppe Cottrell05 Apr 2009 5:32 p.m. PST

Return is the best zed flick ever!

Do you wanna party?!

I would highly recommend Jorge Grau's "Non si deve profanare il sonno dei morti" (Do Not Speak Ill of the Dead), known as "The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue" (UK) or "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie"(US). After the original Dawn of the Dead it is one of my favourite zombie films.

brass106 Apr 2009 6:46 a.m. PST

'28 Days Later' starts with an interesting premise but gets bogged down in an extended sci-fi cliche; I liked '28 Weeks Later' much better.

Unlike a lot of people, I enjoyed 'Diary of the Dead', possibly because it was unlike Romero's previous films, which I also enjoy.

Just last night I watched 'Dance of the Dead', which I had thought would be horrible enough to be funny but turned out to be better than I expected. Not a great flick, mind you, but fun. The dead rise from their graves, trash the town, and then go to the prom.

My candidate for hands-down worst zed film ever is 'Rome Against Rome'. Horrible script, execrable special effects, acting so ludicrous as to defy description, this cinematic fewmet makes the Italian 'Road Warrior' ripoffs of the '80s look like Oscar material.

A bit unusual for a zombie movie, but 'Fido' is quite entertaining:

imdb.com/title/tt0457572

Probably no good scenarios for games, though.

the Gorb06 Apr 2009 3:41 p.m. PST

Bad zombie movie:
Attack Girls' Swim Team Versus the Undead

And yes, before you ask, it's a Japanese film:

joedog06 Apr 2009 4:51 p.m. PST

I think that Shaun of the Dead is the best zombie film ever, but it only works if you have seen other zombie films – so wouldn't be the "one zombie film you should see".

sharkbait06 Apr 2009 5:25 p.m. PST

My favorites:
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead (I realy enjoy the remake, as well)
Shaun of the Dead
Zombie (zombie vs. tiger shark!)

Worst:
I don't have one, I've stayed away from movies like House of the Dead.

Michael B07 Apr 2009 7:08 a.m. PST

House of the Dead wasn't the greatest film…some of the action was good…wouldn't put on my top 10 movies but it was ok for the $5 USD I paid for it.

Now house of the dead 2…was a waste of my time…

But I have to agree Shaun of the dead was a hoot…

Rogzombie Fezian22 Oct 2009 5:54 p.m. PST

I think I've almost exhausted the watcheable selection of zombie flicks. Time to start over…

vampifan23 Oct 2009 3:40 a.m. PST

Go see "Zombieland" – one of the best zombie films ever made. Great fun from start to finish. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD, hopefully with loads of extras.

manatic10 Dec 2009 6:11 p.m. PST

Some threadomancy at work here:

Another vote for Zombieland.

The small budget Australian movie Last of the Living is well worth a watch.

The British movie Doghouse is a good laugh.

The mini-series Dead Set is one of the best zombie things to come out in years.

Dead Snow is a modern classic.

Steer well clear of Dead and Deader. Awful.

Upcoming stuff here:

Not quite a pure zombie movie, but I think fits the genre nicely…

SLITHER

Fantastic fun!

Yakuza Kung-foo zombies!

Excellent

Veloci11 Dec 2009 3:55 p.m. PST

So far my favorite Zed flick is Sean of the Dead, hands down. I missed out on Zombieland and have to wait for it to release but I think from watching the tral=ilers it will be my kind of movie also. I always like a little humor mixed in with my gore.

xXTragedieXx11 Dec 2009 5:34 p.m. PST

Braindead is by far my favourite zombie movie, hilarious and gore filled YAY

HammerHorror14 Dec 2009 2:55 p.m. PST

Avoid Zombie Lake – it's horrid.

Cyclops15 Dec 2009 2:21 p.m. PST

All the obvious ones have been covered, good and bad, but try Mulberry Street (or A Zombie Virus on Mulberry Street). Not a zombie film exactly, though the bad guys act pretty much like fast zombies, it's a great little low budget movie.

Flight of the Living Dead is a laugh.
