I've just got my first rules and ships for the Dreadnaught period and I must admit to knowing very little about naval combat in this era. What books out there can you recommend for a newbie? All I want to start is an overview to give a feel for it but knowing how I operate I'll probably want to get into more detail once I have that feel. Thanks for all suggestions. |

Robert K Massie Castles of Steel and Dreadnought link Castles of Steel is WWI specific, dreadnought is about the naval arms race leading up to the war. The Osprey books on German/English Battelcruisers are decent for Osprey books. Also there are several good websites: link For the Hochseeflotte gwpda.org Great War primary document archive. The Naval section is fantastic! dreadnoughtproject.org the Dreadnought project has good docs on systems and a forum. worldwar1.co.uk World War 1 .co.uk good primer material and ship info Read Scheers book and Jellicos dispatches. |

I would definitely second Castles of Steel as a good overview of the period. In addition I would recommend Jutland 1916 – Death in the Grey Wastes The Blooding of the Guns (a fictional retelling of the battle incorporating a lot of actual experiences from people who were there) is an inspirational read for getting into the period as well. |
