Here are some close-up photos of various manufacturers, Scotia, Navwar, In Service and Falcon Miniatures. Of particular note, I have some comparison photo's between some Scotia, In Service and Navwar.

I am sorry if you received this more than once, but I cross posted it.

Thanks for those pics, Mike. It's nice to see the product you're gonna get before you choose to buy a certain brand. Now I know the Scotia Ki-84s are nice-looking, and will buy a few.

I myself have been toying with the idea of building a site comparing minis, but lazyness has prevailed :)

What metallic paint did you use or your P-51Ds and P-38s? They look perfectly polished. What did you coat them with afterwards to preserve the metallic sheen? (Maybe you left them bare pewter…)

Thanks again,
~Rolando

I used Testors Silver Metallic paint. I then put a coat of gloss varnish, I think it was Rustoleum brand, applied the decals. Then I put on a coat of Testors Dullcote. I may have not put on the Dullcoat. I am pretty sure that is how I did it, it has been a little over 2 years and they say the mind is the 1st thing to go. They are wrong, it is the 2nd.

:)

Testors Metallic! I use Tamiya X-11 Chrome Silver, which is reputed to be among the best, and it's much duller than yours. I mean, it goes on VERY shiny, but by the time I coat it, a lot of shine has oxidized.

Maybe it's because I paint all of the other colored parts BEFORE the clear gloss coat. Do you coat first and then paint the colored bits (wingtips, canopy, anti-glare panel)?

P.S.: My mind is going a bit already too… should I expect something else? :D

I paint everything and then I put on the coat of varnish. I am going to occasionally put more planes on. I have some Raiden miniatures that I should be putting up in the next week or so. These are eight Fiat G-50,eight Bf-109E, eight Hurricanes and eight Spitfires. The G-50s and Bf-109Es just need decals. I will also be finishing 9 Fiat Br.20s and some CR-42s. I am going to be running a Corpo Aero Italiano scenario at a local convention. There is one next month in the area, but I do not think that I will be able to get everything painted in time. So it will probably be in the Fall.
