We played a largish game of General de Brigade last weekend using 28mm figures. Report on my blog: link

Great report and figures. I'm getting lured into Napoleonics too.

Artorius – it would be an entirely honourable thing to start your napoleonic collection with some squadrons of French Cuirassiers.

I think so too.

En avant!

Nice batrep. Some well painted minatures, good terrain and looks like fun was had by all.

I wonder whether General de Brigade will prove popular as way of fighting larger battles with all of the recent plastic Napoleonic box sets. Or will Warlord Games forthcoming Black Powder rules prove more popular for Napoleonics.

Cheers

James

Nice report… thanks for sharing!

I think the choice of which rules to pick will depend in part on what level of combat people are trying to simulate. Some of the movers and shakers around here in the Napoleonic scene can only think of Napoleonic combat as an affair of corps, so when they do the math, 28mm battalion-level anything is discounted as being too expensive, too time-consuming and requiring too much table space to be practical.

As this report suggests, that's not the case. Not everyone has to run a full corps to get that 'Napoleonic' feel.

I have GdB with the idea that it would be used for a more tactical game with 28's. I also just pre-ordered the 'Rank & File' rules from Crusader and will also get Black Powder when it's released.

David,

My figures always seem to look better through the eyes of your camera than they do in person. Maybe it knows to leave off all the flaws!

You forgot to mention my brigade's role of catching cannon balls so your brigade could gain the glory of smashing the lobsters.

We talked about trying other rules sets such as the forthcoming Crusader Rank and File, Warlord Black Powder and Berry Hilton's Revolution to Empire. Time will tell if we can actually agree on a set.

Thanks for creating the write-up.

Bill.
