After reading Robert Range's in-progress Traveller story, link I've developed a renewed desire for some 15mm not-Aslan figures.(The story takes a little time to develop, then becomes rivetting. Mssr. Range has talent and ability). The question I have for the 15mm fans hereabouts is: Are you interested in ordering 15mm not-Aslan from Eureka's 300 club. I've been emailing with Nic at Eureka, and he tells me that the last time this was tried (Tiger-men), there wasn't enough interest. I'm wondering if "Lion-men in combat armour with lasers" would have more support? |

Thank's Mark. That's three (one off-line contact). One line at a time, boyo. :) KF Clambo, Leahy, et al., what about it? |
The Beast Rampant | 26 Mar 2009 9:01 a.m. PST |
I would be interested, depending on what they look like. But I second DH's call for Not-Vargr. My old Citadel space doggies need some playmates! I'd buy sci-fi dogmen sight-unseen. |

Mark did you see the postings Eli and I made this week, about Alien Races, over at The WSW? Lol
Hell no. |
kmfrye | 26 Mar 2009 10:07 a.m. PST |
Beast, thanks. I'm thinking Ridley Scott style combat armour and lasers/gauss rifles. We're up to five. I also have some emails out to some of the TravellerCon-USA people. (I'd support not-Vargs, too. I just don't want to dissapate my efforts right now.) KF |
daddyslittlemen | 26 Mar 2009 10:08 a.m. PST |
I'd be down for enough to make a platoon, like everything else in 15mm sci fi. I'm more interested in dog men, but I would buy 4-5 packs of lion men. |
PapaSync | 26 Mar 2009 10:34 a.m. PST |
Are we talkin Lionmen or not-Kizinty. I would love a couple of squads of not-Kizinty. 8) |
kmfrye | 26 Mar 2009 10:40 a.m. PST |
Clambo, Thanks. Six and counting. If this works, we could try a Eureka-300 Club of the Month. Papa-Sync. I'm talking big Lionmen, not-Aslan, not from the not-Traveller universe. K- |

Gents, we're now at seven. Another off-TMP gamer: SUBJECT: Re: [TravellerCon_USA_Info] Attn: Traveller 15mm miniature wargamers Keith, Yes I would be interested in (not)-Aslan 15mm Traveller(-esque) figs. I will be visiting Eureka's site soon. I am sure I would be ordering somewhere between 50-100 of them. Gotta love the Fans. : ) |
M1Fanboy | 26 Mar 2009 12:18 p.m. PST |
You betcha! Aslan for my 15mm Sci-fi! Sign me up! What do I need to do, someone PM me! |
kmfrye | 26 Mar 2009 12:34 p.m. PST |
Fanboy, please PM me with your name, email and state/country. For my records. Once we get the required numbers (2-3 more) I'll contact at Eureka. Once he puts the scu's up on the Eureka site, I'll let everyone know. Then you'll need to put in a pre-order with contact info and credit card data. Once the run is completed, Nic will bill our cards. They will be slightly different from traveller canon Aslan. I'm figuring they will have no dewclaw, and won't speak Trokh. :D |

Last year I got the o.k. from Denizen Miniatures to have Eureka create 15mm versions of their Ventaurans through the 300 club. Then I totally dropped the ball because I was overly ambitious. I wanted to replicate all 12 poses, not including the bareheaded figure (SF9). Probably ot economically feasible. Thinking more about it these figures should probably be split into infantry and support packs. Keith, if you wanted to take this off my hands after the Sci-Fi Lion men I'd be happy to forward you the emails I have. |
Bishop Odo | 26 Mar 2009 2:02 p.m. PST |
ok, It seems 15mm are making a comeback, with GHQ and such, Damm time to invest. When the 15mm are up at Eureka's 300 I'm in, |
kmfrye | 26 Mar 2009 3:44 p.m. PST |
I've just had an email from Nic at Eureka. The SciFi Lion men are already up on the Eureka site and listed as 300CLUBSF06 – you can find them in the 300 Club SciFi area. link Participants need to go to the website, add the desired numbers to their cart, check out, and log their credit card. You will not be charged until the figures are ready. I plan on keeping abreast of these figs as they are sculpted. Mike Broadbent is scheduled to be the sculptor; time is being set aside for him as I write. I'm planning to ask Nic to go for four figs – two riflemen, a support fig (missile) and a sgt./leader. Thoughts? Bishop – welcome to the Promised Land. :) KF We are the Nine. BTW, the Auzzie dollar is exchanging at .75 the US, and .52 the UK currencies, respectively. |

I'm up for not-Aslan (I wanted the tigermen but they never took off), and the not-vargr/Space doggies. I hadn't realised that the Ventaurans were similar to Denizen's, so I better place an order for some of those, too. And the NZ shekel isn't doing too bad vs the Oz dollar at the moment, either :) Thanks for the heads-up on the 15mm SF yahoo group, Keith |
kmfrye | 27 Mar 2009 5:16 a.m. PST |
Davebill, you're very welcome. In emailing Nic I told him that the term "tigermen" might have been off-putting. My first thought when reading it was c.1900 AD Chinese light infantry. We're currently at the 100+ mark on the Eureka website. I've ordered 60. If people don't mind, would you let me know once you've ordered, what quantities you've ordered? Either post here, PM me or email kmfrye2001(at)yahoo(dot)com – please. That way, I can keep abreast of our progress, and possibly increase my order if we end up close to the 600 mark. Best regards, Keith F. |
M1Fanboy | 27 Mar 2009 1:45 p.m. PST |
Ordered 30 of the Not-Aslan. If there's Space Doggies, look for me to grab a similar amount! |
davebill | 27 Mar 2009 5:16 p.m. PST |
Have just ordered 50 not-Aslan, 50 Ventaurans and 50 Martians for good measure! Nic was saying that the Martians might not make it as Blackhat are now doing a range. If the Martians do fold, I'll increase my not-Aslan order. Man! It would be good to get some leonines that look a little more animated than the ones at 15mm.uk! |
Dropship Horizon | 28 Mar 2009 1:39 a.m. PST |
I have ordered 50 not-Aslan, 50 Ventaurans. If both live up to what I want from these figures, I may take up to 100 of each. I'm interested in the idea of the Victorian Martian Infantry but need to know more. Cheers Mark |
kmfrye | 28 Mar 2009 7:14 a.m. PST |
I'm estimating that we're at about 240 miniatures ordered, including what Dave, Fanboy and Mark have posted. This is already more success than the "tigermen" had. Another off-board contact wants 40, if everyone on this thread who was definate about ordering places a platoon-sized order (Clambo, Bishop Odo), we'll be up around 360-400. Not too shabby. I have an email off to the fellows at Tactics-0, the San Jose Traveller wargaming club. I figure we'll pick up another 50 or so from them late next week. We are making great progress. Well done all. Keith F. |
daddyslittlemen | 28 Mar 2009 8:03 p.m. PST |
40 Lion-Men, 40 Ventaurans |
kmfrye | 29 Mar 2009 5:57 a.m. PST |
Clambo, thanks for the update. Well, according to the Eureka website, we're over the halfway mark at 300+. I had calculated we'd be at 280 with Clambo's order, possibly one of the off-boarders (or even better, a third party!) placed an order and hasn't said anything. Which means we're at 7 or 8 individuals. Good news indeed. KF |
davebill | 29 Mar 2009 2:14 p.m. PST |
Hi Mark, I am particularly interested in Large 4-armed Martians for use as Sydites in my Traveller game. The Blackhat ones look just a little too savage for the look I want. The Peter Pig ones are better, in that respect, and I love their retro guns but, casting wise, they're a little crude (ie backs of arms become blobs connected to the body – and too thick to drill out). That's great news about the numbers, Keith! Not a bad couple of days work :) |
kmfrye | 05 Apr 2009 2:39 p.m. PST |
Lionmen pre-orders are over 400. Not sure if it's one of our TMP cabal or another fan with impeccable tastes in sci-fi wargaming. Keep it up and tell a friend. Keith F. |
Gkzhukov | 08 Apr 2009 1:16 p.m. PST |
I just added a tiny pre-order for 10 not-Aslan (as well as 10 Ventauran and 10 Martial Infantry). I wish we can keep it up so that some day we can have 15mm not-K'kree and not-Hiver! :D |
kmfrye | 09 Apr 2009 5:54 a.m. PST |
Gkzhukov, Thanks for your support! Every little bit helps. You can sometimes find old 15mm Citadel K'kree on eBay, both in environment suits and ballistic armour – though their lineage is often
uncertain. For Hivers, miniature battle needs can be met with Stan Johansen Dracons (saurians) will work as Ithklur proxies: link Hivers will rarely be encountered on an actual battlefield, using Ithklur and robot vehicles instead. Though for RPG purposes, yeah, we need'em. |

Mark @ Dropship Horizon: if you're a member of SFSFW, would you kindly mention the 15mm Sci-Fi Lionmen Project on their yahoo group? There's a link to the TMP discussion and Eureka site on my blog, just above "followers". Thanks very much for your help. Keith F. tempestsinateapot.blogspot.com |

How are we doing with this project? Numbers seem to have stalled on the Eureka site :( The Martians are doing better! |
Dropship Horizon | 17 May 2009 3:19 a.m. PST |
Mongoopse have announced that they will be doing a Traveller Miniatures line and they will probably be reimagining the likes of the Aslan etc. This may provide impetus once news becomes common knowledge. Cheers Mark |
kmfrye | 17 May 2009 11:30 a.m. PST |
I estimate we're at 430 minis ordered, +/- 20. We have well over the required number of people ordering (I think it's twelve). I must confess being somewhat stumped as how to move forward – I've mentioned these on several of sci-fi mini gaming forums, and it did generate some interest, but after the initial rush, the numbers rather flat-lined. I could suggest that those who have ordered consider upping their order by 10 minis. That would put us close enough to the goal where I could up my order to make up the difference. (I can always sell the extras on eBay
) I'll think about other net forums to flog these on. Regards, Keith F. |
BaronDarkhstarr | 10 Jun 2009 4:13 p.m. PST |
I just placed an order for the lionmen. Is the order for a set or for just one mini. If it is the latter, I definitely order more. Especially if includes female minis. |
khurasanminiatures | 10 Jun 2009 4:31 p.m. PST |
Keith, not to worry. I am working with a very well-known, strong sculptor of 15mm scifi to make a small line of Felids in 15mm. He's shown me the first test model and I'm very pleased. There will be a hero and three warriors, with blasters and heavy armour. Enought to make squads of basic Felid warriors. We aren't doing heavy support as I think the Felids will be a bit too hotheaded for such cool employment of crushing long range firepower. Not to interfere with the Eureka project, as I'm sure they'll give it the royal treatment. Also my Felids will have a rather unusual variety of feline face (kudos to the sculptor for coming up with it!), so I don't think there will be any direct competition. I just mention this so you won't get too upset if the 300 club item doesn't move forward, at least you'll have my Felids. Mark, a bit surprised to read that mongoose is thinking of getting back into miniatures after the SST fiasco. I wish them well with it, though. |
kmfrye | 10 Jun 2009 8:00 p.m. PST |
BaronDarkhstar, You are ordering the Eureka minis in singles, so you might wish to order more. There are no females listed per se. Aslan females are strictly support services. Khurasan – we'll need some female felids. I would buy heavy felids if they were compatable with the neo-Aslan profile. Jump Troops would be useful. I'm not fretting the 300 club. If eventually I lose patience, I'll just put in a makeup order. :) Regards, Keith F. |
khurasanminiatures | 10 Jun 2009 8:18 p.m. PST |
Not making any females (if by "females" we mean "with big human female breasts" ).. As I said, I'm making just enough for a squad of basic warriors. To be honest I don't know what an Aslan is, but thesw are Felids, sort of inspired by Kzinti but not looking that much like them as Kzinti are tigermen (IIRC) and these Felids will be based on another species of wild cat. They're cool though so will make fun mercenaries and so on for games. |

I've just checked the Eureka link, and we are over 500. Nicely done, Gents! link Would people who haven't already done so post their orders' numbers on this thread, please? I think we're just over 500 (like 520) but I'd like to be sure. Some guys ordered as little as 10, but every bit counts, so I say. Regards, Keith F. |
kmfrye | 11 Jun 2009 11:27 a.m. PST |
Khurasan, By female we mean smaller than the males, with no mane. Modest breasts would be fine, but not necessary (and probably redundant in 15mm). Something like a medic or r/t operator. Looking forward to seeing the greens – I hope you will post them. Regards, Keith |
khurasanminiatures | 11 Jun 2009 2:49 p.m. PST |
Well, as it may turn out, there could very well be slight differences between individual model sizes, but that will be slight, and they will pretty all much be in heavy armour with a big blaster that fires a satisfyingly large bolt of molten slag at the enemy! This is purely meant to field your basic grunt (growler?) squad, and IIRC they actually don't have manes, as the cats they are based on don't either. So, well, they might actually be usable alongside your Eureka fellows as a separate species of catmen. |
BaronDarkhstarr | 11 Jun 2009 7:51 p.m. PST |
Keith: Thanks, ordered more. When it came to Aslan, I originally used the Martian Metals for both sexes. When the Citadel came out I used the Citadel for males & the MM for female or juvenile males. I keep hoping to find more minis with a 'tribal' or civilian garb as my campaign revolves around free traders/scouts/pirates. |
kmfrye | 12 Jun 2009 8:31 a.m. PST |
BaronD May I ask, how many did you order? I have a platoon of the Citadels and some of the Martian Metals. Some of the Citadels might fit your bill for looking civilian (firing pistols, carrying staves & suchlike). If you'd like to drop me an email: kmfrye2001(at)yahoo(dot)com – we can discuss what you're looking for. Keith |
