Got some of these painted this morning – wanted to see what I could do with about 2 hrs work. The black ship is a 112, the red one is an 80, and the other is a 74. These are right out of the box: washed, primed and painted. Flags are simple paper glued to the mast. They are actually not quite finished as I need to work on the sails and touch up what the camera revealed.

Put 30 of them on the table at the same time and they'll look great!

Boy you're fast! I really like the stern galleries and think they may be better than those on the Tumbling Dice models.

Is the black 112 Santa Anna?

Yeppers.

You do realize, you have personally increased sales for this product 100 fold. The number one thing I see here versus the ones that had shown at the site – the guns are clearly visible and apparently clean. I had thought perhaps the mold here was uneven – clearly they are not.

As I had asked in a previous post – do you plan to put some minimal rigging? Do they appear to be large for 1/2400? They looked big in the photos in your hand yesterday. I'm thinking they might matchup with some valiant 1/2000 and Valiant does sell all those lesser ship types such as crew boats.

Its good to see someone else make good use of Walmart Acrylic paint as well. What particular Blue have you used for the base – I know others use a darker blue but it still looks good to me. Also, you did a great job on the ratlines – they look much better and subtle than the OG site.

They should offer you a deal on posting this for them.

Its my understanding the Spanish decorated the bow and stern areas more so than the British and French. You seem to have really brought that detail out.

Are you guys planning to place labels for each ship? I was thinking I'd go with a dremel tool or perhaps make a plate and then epoxy it to the base so it lays flat.

Thank you very much VSB; I think I may make an order tomorrow, though I would still really like to see some side-by-side comparrisons *ahem* ;)

I see it's still 2004 there. What time zone are you in, again?

And everybody seems to have the Spanish fleet…is it because it's the smallest?

To answer the questions in order: (thanks!)

- I will try some minimal rigging tomorrow. Today I was just testing techniques.

- a Spanish 74, at 170" on the gundeck scales out to about .85 inches. The mini is a hair smaller, say .8 on the gundeck. The ship stands about 250 scale feet to the top of the main t'gallant. The 112 gun mini looks to be a scale 200' on the gundeck – pretty close to San Josef's 196'

- the base is Americana Deep Midnight Blue drybrushed with Americana Victorian Blue

- the ratlines were painted black first, then drybrushed in grey

- some of the stern detail is brush only, but there is certainly enough there to paint and drybrush.

- have not made my mind up yet on how to label

- side by side with what?

- Central. Fargin camera!

- The Spanish are the smallest of the three, but they were also first out of the box when I unpacked.

- more, and more pics this weekend.

One other thing… the camera brings these far far closer to the eye than normal. They are very pleasing from a foot away – this from someone who does 1/1200, 1/600 and 1/300 Napoleonic also.

Na… nothing I haven't done for other lines I've enjoyed.

I was refering to McKinstry's statement on another thread that he would paint up some OG's and post pics of them alongside their equivalents from Tumbling Dice and Hallmark.

The fate of my hard-earned may well hang in the balance (no pressure).

I just noticed that the Trafalgar Special is out of stock. :(

Some of us (me) are markedly slower than others. I'm still on track to finish them Saturday and post on Sunday.

I'm trying to paint the ratline bits a very light gray and then brush up the ratlines in black plus a wash. My Spanish 74 is going to be in red since that is what I did the Hallmark Spanish in to make a more even comparison.

Larry – I know Santa Anna and one other were in that black on black but was thinking of either blood red dots over the guns for the port shutters or maybe a gloss painted on the strakes just to get some kind of differentiation. Have you ever tried something like that?

On larger ships, yes. I'll give it a try tomorrow, but given the small size, the dots may be beyond the ability of any paintbrush I have.

Those look great, but since I have never seen pics of TD's, I think I will wait to see comparison shots.

Virtualscratchbuilder,

We have more of the Trafalgar rule books on the way so will be reinstating the special shortly and will run until we are out of books again.

Theresa,

Are there going to individual ships available at some point? Also, in regards to the many other ship types found in the game, such as Sloops, Cutters, brigs, and ships boats, will these be something that will be produced from your source?

I would think that some might wish to field other fleets such as the Americans and Dutch. The ability to buy "X" number of ships of various sizes, might be something others would want. My friend that received two if his fleet deals I am sharing in, just arrived today – he thanks you for the prompt shipping.
