Spotted this one in their discount rack – subtitled Cavalry, Comanches, and the Battle for the Texas Frontier. ISBN-13: 978-0-7858-2191-5 It's about the Second Cavalry, established by US Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, with officers assigned based on merit. Many of its officers would go on to serve with distinction in the Civil War (Robert E. Lee, John Bell Hood, George Thomas). |
