Hi,

I wonder what unlicensed games you use to play with your plastic collectible minis like Mechwarrior ? I plan to use Mechwarrior minis for the very nice Command Horizon rule set, rebased as necessary. I am also thinking of getting some Star Wars Starship Battles and possibly Monsterpocalypse miniatures but still looking for the rules. What do you play team ?

Dirtside 2 and Full Thrust come to mind.

You could easily use them for future war commander, or even, battletech.

DSII and Stargrunt II. Many mechs work great with 15mm infantry.

Do you know what scale is Monsterpocalypse ? Maybe some minis could be be used with Mechwarrior forces.

I use the Mechwarrior rules, with an updated move and shoot option and , most important, returned it to hexes. The game never made sense with a "guess the range" mechanic. That is what targeting computers are for! I also play everything moves or passes in a full turn. It captures the deadly fast nature of the mech battlefield I felt was such a part of the books. Now, with 3 inch hexes, the ranges "feel" better, and there is no more "fudging" with picking up, turning a dial and replacement on the board.

A great game, and a very evocative fiction to support it. I was never satisfied with the game centered only on the mechs. I like the more tactical feel of Mechwarior Dark Age, with the great chart-less system of dials to keep track of the stats.

If you're after a decent combined arms mech type game.

I've started ripping mine off their bases to re-base for use with Future War Commander.

What do you do for an updated move and shoot set up for Mechwarrior AoD?

Why not use your Mechwarrior Mechs with the Classic Battletech rules?

Giant Monster Rampage could easily be used with those miniatures especially if you are going to be using Monsterpocalypse figures.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I do not have the CBT rules handy. I was hoping for an easier move and shoot idea that would better capture how Mechs would be in real combat, and still be able to keep gameplay simple enough for a twelve and nine year old. I would really appreciate the help as I have seem to hit a wall.

Take a look at Giant Monster Rampage. I designed it to be played by young and old players alike. Many of my players play with their families.

The youngest player I have had play at a demo was 8 and he held his own against the adults and had no problem picking up the game.

Thank you. I take it I have to purchase the 'core rulebook'?
Very nice to check on here when I can and see the nice responses. This is good stuff.

Yes the core rulebook has everything you need to play.

Giant Monster Rampage is the first book in a series of games that all use the Toy Battle System. The next book titled Power Warriors, an anime/sentai style combat game, will be released in November.

Each book in the Toy Battle System series can be played against each other or the powers in each, with the exception of a few, can be used by combatants from other books. So , in effect each book is a stand alone game as well as an expansion for other Toy Battle System games.

After Power Warriors will be Mega Bots which fleshes out the mech monsters from Giant Monster Rampage. Then comes The Swarm which is about swarms of infantry, vehicles, or even beasts fighting each other.

Mega Bots is scheduled for a 1st quarter 2010 release and The Swarm a 2nd quarter 2010 release.

We created our own Full Thrust version for Star Wars:

Also, as Artslave mentioned we have been able to play a cleaned up version with modifications to the mechwarrior rules.

I converted a bunch of mine to WarEngine similar to Dirtside 2 in ease of play. If your interested the rules are free and I can send you what I have converted.

Is still battletech , but Renengade Tech I think is worth a look and is probably a better damage resolution system than CBT
