Hi everybody, I would like your input about which historical figures at 15-18mm are the best approximation for these type of armor/armies: link link link link (the big spread in the second row) theknownworld.com The comic is Mark Smylie's Artesia, an interesting hard-fantasy series set in a late-medieval early Renaissance world. Any help will be appreciated, although I do understand that this should typically be fantasy, the armor and fashion are historical. KTravlos |

Well the armors depicted are sort of Late Medieval/Early Renaissance-ish. You might look at Venexia 15mm Italian Wars. Essex also carries a variety. None of the lines will satisfy all your armor needs. --judging by the pictures. |

Some more pics link picture picture picture Hey John, thanks. That is why I am looking at 15/18mm and not 25mm. Also it will permit me to build matched armies, if I can find enough minis out there. |

The armours (and the commonness of the open barbutte) looks very mid-to-late 15th century italian to me, although I believe the style was also popular in the wars of the roses and pehaps as early as the late hundred years war. Have a look at some of these peter pig figures peterpig.co.uk/range_23.htm As well are these from mirliton link Of course, the second last link is showing a fair number of visored salets, and even a visored bascinet with houndskull, so you can cover a fair period. Take a good look at the mirliton range; I have quite a few and they are very nice pieces. You will have to look elsewhere for images of the condottieri from mirliton line but it is quite nice as well. |

Yeah, I'm with Lentulus. 15th-16th century Italian or Swiss. Essex has some nice 15mm Italians and Swiss: link Blackhat has some that might work: link |

Yup. Mirliton is also a good bet. |

They are late gothic (mid-late 15th c), no issue there. The problem is they are all in full harness, which foot pikemen generally did not wear. Close to them would be Mirliton's Burgundian spearmen, a close but not exact match because of the serious armour discrepancy. link Battleline's 15mm War of the Roses line includes heavily armoured pikemen, so-so sculpts but at least they give you more or less what you want, though not in the romanesque sallet. link Can't really think of anything else, sorry! You might want to commission some. |

I might actually be interested in commissioning Artesia and her retinue. Any advice on company? And really hanks for all the proposals. However I see it this will require converting. So propably a year long project. |

How about Scots pikemen of the Flodden period such as link ? |

Swampster Excellent suggestion for Daradjan and with some conversion Palatian pike. (Daradja in Artesia is something akin to a anarchical Scotland with clans and Petty kingdoms but no kilts, Palatia is a mix of Venetian naval might, and Swiss military efficiency). A note on armours. There two reasons their is so much armour in the pics. Daradja, Artesias homeland is ore-rich and right next door to Palatia and her Arsenal. So armor is cheap and more readily available than in our history. 2 Artesian armies tend to be smaller. |

Any advice on company? Eureka 300 Club. I've had success with their "100 Club" program for 28mm figures. I imagine that their 300 Club is just as good. eurekamin.com.au/custom.php |

I made an application to Eureka for a small set of Artesia and her retinue on foot and mounted, as they look at the extended battle scene in Artesia Afield 4,5,6. Let us see what will happen. |
