Looking very nice! I like the subtle shading you did. The flags look great! Did you paint them or buy them?

Al;
What's the issue about 1st Texas? I've been doing a lot of work and research on that unit myself…

Great stuff Al!

TKindred05 May 2009 10:57 a.m. PST

One thing to keep in mind is that shortly after assuming command of the ANV, Lee forbid the carrying of state flags by his units when in battle. Only the battle flag was to be flown in the field.

There was much hew and cry in the army, but the regulation was quite strongly enforced. Thus, by Chancellorsville, only the battle flag should be seen in units, the state flag, if carried, being furled and cased. There are specific mentions of some colour sergeants defying the ban, but they are unit and date specific, and commented upon by men warning them not to defy orders.

respects,

Hi!
Great looking units.

I was wondering, what colours did you use? Especially the light browns. I'm struggling to find a good 'butternut' colour. I'm using Bubonic Brown by Games Workshop and Goldbrown by Vallejo at the moment

Excellent work on those units

TigerJon19 Nov 2011 12:13 p.m. PST

Al,

Very nice work! A few questions:

How many total regiments do you game with and how many men to a stand/stands to a regiment?

How long does it typically take you to complete a regiment?

Flat Beer and Cold Pizza19 Nov 2011 3:37 p.m. PST

Some lovely stuff there! Well done.

dflament20 Nov 2011 6:38 a.m. PST

alcal5022 Nov 2011 10:30 a.m. PST

Thanks for the comments guys , more troops to follow.

Im creating Hoods Division at Gettysburg so thats 18 regiments in four Brigades 32 figures to a regiment and 4 figures to base.

I will lay it all out when finished but that will be next spring.I paint a union regiment (36 )in about 4/5 days.Rebs(32) take a couple of weeks+ ,at the moment i have 4 regiments on the table(3rd Brigade Bennings Georgians) and im a third of the way through them.
Ive taken two weeks out to paint up some skirmishers for the Union brigade + a brigade comander/base and a three gun(Parrotts) Arty battery

At the moment we are playing with up to two Brigades each.

And yeh still buying i have one Brigade left to collect (5 regiments x 32 figs) all Redoubt Enterprises,if i see anything close to my paintwork style on e bay etc i may just `up paint` if possible.

dflament23 Nov 2011 9:58 a.m. PST

how is the quality of your redoubt figures if i may ask… i bought some regimnt packs last month from them and the castings are so-so. Need alot of work and lots of figures have the 'hole where the head' goes drilled all wrong, some are completely ruined, some have no foots…

on a sidenote, again … very nice work! :-)

alcal5023 Nov 2011 1:40 p.m. PST

Some are great but some ,especially the at the double quick, right shoulder shift and high port need work and are tired moulds.

They have said they will be re doing the moulds but as to when ???????

Never had a problem with the head drilling though.

I think we put up with to much sometimes and you should send them back for replacements ? Im sure they would sort out as best they could, i am useless and just put up and make do.
Cheers AL

HammerHead24 Nov 2011 9:58 a.m. PST

Tired moulds……..I bought the two gun artillery packs the gun carridges were a mess to clean up, dumped them in the end the crew were Ok. If they are still making money & I like Redoubts, they will have to sort things out before I buy from them again

TigerJon25 Nov 2011 7:27 p.m. PST

This is very disturbing to hear. I very recently placed an order for about 30 infantry in great coats (command as well) and a Chamberlain and Armistead personality pack. I have a shopping cart built in excess of $200. I hope I don't upset Trevor, but I have sent an email asking if my open order can be screened before shipped

TigerJon25 Nov 2011 9:40 p.m. PST

Al,

How quickly you can knock out a regiment is incredible. How many hours do you paint per day. Please share your painting method if you do not mind.

dflament26 Nov 2011 2:54 a.m. PST

TigerJon,

i had an order picked up on a convention exceeding almost 250€ and i quickly checked them at the booth, they looked 'ok'. Once home i checked them again and noticed all kinds of weird stuff tbh. My wargaming buddy had an order exceeding 400€ and he got it really bad. He ordered the 28mm train set and it is unbelievably terrible casted. Air bubbles and melted resin beyond repairable, he doesn't have the skills to repair it to a decent state. Costed him alot of money. He mailed Redoubt about it but no reply.

I don't wish to sound too negative but they'll also having trouble mailing people back. Even after a small question that can anwsered with a simple response…

P.S. My infantry in great coats (the Irish regiment pack) is the worst of my bunch. The command in great coats is alot better.

Hi just off to the club for an ACW game (Blochers Knoll) but thought i would add my last two weeks work,
16 2nd US SS and 12 114th NY as u can see both sets are skirmishers, also second Brigade commander and although no pic yet also painted 10` of stream sections.
Cheers AL
ps glad to go through my painting method when i have time, really easy for the Union i found.

TigerJon27 Nov 2011 8:47 a.m. PST
