I'm keeping a blog on my latest project. It's a set of ECW armies in 28mm. We're playing Victory without Quarter by Clarence Harrison. I've not painted 17th century guys in years. My first armies in 1978 were Hinchcliffe ECW. Seems as if I've gone full circle. Enjoy and please let me know what y'all think! pilum40 DFWIrregulars link |

feeble? You are too modest Sir! Glad to see someone else playing Victory without Quarter too :-) |

Very, very nice; we'd like to see more as you progress. |

I've bookmarked your blog as I have also started collecting ECW 28mm and basing them for Victory Without Quarter. I am using Perry, Old Glory and some Foundry. I have gamed ECW in the past in 15mm using a wide variety of rules. I also have a fair number of books on the subject so apart from venturing in 28mm I don't know if this counts as a "new" project. I will be interested to hear your thoughts on VWQ rules as they don't cover every situation, (e.g. no rules for flank attacks!) I will probably end up altering the rules slightly but in the meantime we have had some very entertaining games with the rules as written. |

Thanks to all for the generous comments! Hopefully I can still type as my head is getting as large as a Maudi Gras celebration head. not really
Thistle: Have you written Clarence and asked him how he worked that out? I'm really curious too. Our group is pretty aggressive on the table and flanks definitely will become an issue if they're not covered. My thinking right now is that the player that exposed the flank should take a minus in melee ala Might of Arms ancients rule or take a morale minus when charged ala WRG. How did y'all work it out? Again..thanks to all! |

Pilum40: I emailed Clarence but did not receive a reply so I am still experimenting with resolving flank attacks. At the moment we don't give the defender any dice if hit in the flank or rear. This usually means they automatically lose the melee and have to take a morale test. If they survive they count next round of combat as facing the threat. This is a fairly brutal solution but does mean you guard your flanks! I will try other solutions as I've only played about 4 games so far. My forces stand at 3 Foot and 4 horse aside. More troops due to be painted up soon. I also found a copy of File Leader rules by Pete Berry for company and troop level ECW games. It uses more or less the same basing so I will try them, and may be able to steal some ideas for VWQ or use them for smaller skirmishes. Both sets emphasis the fun and speed of play which is primarily what I'm after. |

Looking good Steve! I've bookmarked your blog as well. Be interesting to follow your progress and see what you think of the rules after a couple games. I went through an ECW phase a year or two ago, bought some figures (still unpainted), but didn't really find a ruleset to my liking. |
