Hello all. I just completed my first transaction with a painting service, and I couldn't be happier! I used DJD Miniatures Painting Service. I sent them 2 armies to paint, a Russian and an Austrian army. The minis are from Pendraken's 10mm 1812 Moscow campaign line.

My order was based for Field of Battle, 4 stands to a unit, 6 figures to a stand.

Communication with DJD was excellent and emails were answered within a few hours. I allowed DJD to use their reference books for the Uniform colors…to be honest, I'm just starting into this time period and I felt they would know better than I what uniform schemes to use. When my order was finished I was linked photos of the painted units. I asked for a few correction (in the basing, not the painting) and the corrections were made and new pictures posted within 24 hours.

My order was mailed within 48 hours of my final payment, I received the package 2.5 weeks later from Thailand. The packaging was excellent, each unit was bubble wrapped separately with my basing instruction and DJD's internal documentation taped to each unit. I was VERY impressed with the fact that they pressed a small piece of Styrofoam "peanut" onto the bayonets so to give added protection during shipping. There was one small bit of damage during shipping, a flag pole was broken off, but I have spare figures here and a small drop of superglue later, the Regimental Flag was raised high. (As a side note: When I wrote Richard from DJD to confirm delivery and thank him for his painting services, I made mention of the damage. He offered to fix the damage at no cost if I wished to send the miniature back to them.)

Overall, I am very, very pleased with the paint jobs and the service. I had them painted at DJD's war gaming standard; .80 per foot, $1.30 USD per mounted. That includes basing. They arrived painted better than I could and the turn around was way faster then I would have gotten them done. (I mailed them September 9th, they arrived at my door January 30th).

I will be purchasing a French army for my Russians and Austrians to fight, and DJD will be getting my commission to complete them also.

I realize this is my first experience with using a painting service, but I highly recommend DJD Minis!

Sounds like you got great service.

BTW, your basing seems a bit overwhelming for figures that small. I don't know if this is because the flocking gel, or whatever that is, has a grain size too large or whether having it all green puts me off.

For small bases, and small figures, I tend to do this

That is just sand mixed with DIY store chocolate brown emulsion. Then the base is dry brushed with yellow then white. Patches of green are dry brushed on to simulate grass. I don't use static grass on bases this small because it looks too big.

I read in your review that DJD just followed your basing instructions. So I'm only commenting on your choice of basing. Of course basing is just a matter of taste and you could be 100% happy with your choice.

Cheers

Neil

Yep, these guys painted all of my 15mm MAW figures and did a fine job on them and the price was reasonable.
