Please understand, the following is a rant
I really, REALLY wish some of these people would get their together and freaking post pictures of their products. There is simply NO excuse anymore for NOT doing so. None. It's sad that the only resource we have for pics of some of these minis are taken by fans who post on places like the guild. It's so bad, that there are entire sections of forums like this where parts of catalogs are illustrated by CUSTOMERS doing so in their *spare time*. Don't get me wrong, finally getting to see SOME of these lines in pics is nice, but how sad is it that the companies themselves often refuse to do it? Yes, I said refuse. It seems that is the only explanation for some of it. The pics I have seen of painted examples of KH minis have looked excellent, but because I refuse to buy sight unseen any more, it looks like I won't be getting any. Would someone kindly kick some people in the head at some of these companies and force them to post pics? Please? And don't get me started on British companies who seem loathe to sell to Americans
lest we actually PURCHASE any of their freaking products. And they call Americans insular
Ok. Rant over. Feel better now. |

I thought this was for figures from the film as well! I got really excited at the thought of seeing oddall locking horns with a tiger
man. I also agree with Iron Keith – Asolutely no excuse in this day and age for gamers to buy "blind" – some would ask questions of the commitment of the compeny to serve customers. David tabletopreview.com |

I concur as well. I for do not buy figures without a pic. My figure budget is $3,000 USD US per year, so think about that manufacturers! |
Richard Baber | 16 Jan 2009 3:08 p.m. PST |
I did suggest to Andy (owner of Grubby Tanks/ Kelly`s Heroes) that pics of his figures would sell him loads more. I fully understand peoples complaints (hi Keith) I`ve been stung myself before now buying sight unseen. I`m lucky I live in the UK and have seen Kelly`s Heroes in the flesh (so to speak)so in this case I wasn`t buying blind. Excellent figures, the postal service was brilliant to with only 7 days even with the Christmas post. |

"My figure budget is $3,000.00 USD" Goodness me! I'm lucky if I get to to spend $300 USD (or the equivalent in GBP)!! |
donlowry | 16 Jan 2009 5:29 p.m. PST |
If I can't see the mini, I don't buy the mini. As for the movie, I thought it was really stupid. On a scale of 1-10 it was about a 3. |
Sundance | 16 Jan 2009 6:21 p.m. PST |
I'm with Don. If I can't see it, I don't buy it. Bought too many poor figures blind and won't do it again. The other problem is figures that are described by the manufacturer, but when you get the package, they aren't what was described or they are inaccurate. |
Pizzagrenadier | 16 Jan 2009 6:52 p.m. PST |
Sundance: Very common problem. Not to pick on KH too much (sorry!), but simply to use this as an example: there is a pack in the Kelly's Heros line for the late war Germans that says MG-34 team, when in fact, the team has an MG-42 (at least from what I have been told on the Guild forums). Not a big deal to some maybe, but if you are playing a game where there is a difference between the weapons, knowing something like this is kind of important. |

Yes
Now for the opposite rant/arguement. Do you think that these 'one man band' wargame companies have nothing else to do in their lives other than take pics? They hold down a full-time 'real' job, a family, sculpt figures fulfill orders and visit shows
But none of that is enough
they should photo all their figs too, that would only take a few seconds. Not too mention seconds to edit and upload (especially for those manufacturers who are not computer savvy). Seriously, rant all you like, but sadly some people also have real lives and not enough time. Give em a break
You dont spend your money, grand Im not sure it really bothers them. Some guys just dont have the time to do it and people need to realise that some have other things in life more important than toy soldiers.
"My figure budget is $3,000.00 USD US per year, so think about that manufacturers!"
And? Whats your point other than boasting? Back to the point
CP Models are the only ones for Kellys Heroes, and they are a tank crew only. Grubby Tanks range 'Kellys Heroes' are excellent figures. For those who want to see pics before buying, try visiting the Guild. Plenty of pics of them there. |
Pizzagrenadier | 18 Jan 2009 7:47 a.m. PST |
/Devil's advocate mode on. I also have a "real life". Having one is not an argument. It's a dodge from a legitimate complaint. The fact that some use it and get upset about it when it is brought up shows that it is true enough to hit too close to home. Not being computer savvy is also not an excuse in this day and age. I'm not either, and I have managed, despite my "real life", to paint miniatures, take pics of them and post them on the guild. I can photograph a whole platoon in a few minutes. An extra half hour uploading them and editing them and hosting them on a place like Photobucket (which is FREE) does not take a degree in photography, a lifetime of computer knowledge, or a week of work. If I can do it, so can a person selling minis. Look, we don't expect them to put their whole catalog up at once. But an effort would be nice. But if you seriously want our money, and you have an extra few minutes to dedicate to your business a day, you can find the time to do a few minis a day. If some other things are more important than toy soldiers (I am not arguing they aren't), then why start a business selling them? Why bother? Or, rather, why bother getting upset at criticism? I own a gaming business too. It's not my full time gig. I also have a "real life". I have a family. I manage to find the time to answer questions from gamers every day on the Yahoo group. That's the reality of owning a company. Fine if a company doesn't want to do those things or it "doesn't bother them" that I don't spend my money. But I don't want to see any of them getting y then when we bitch about their medieval business practices. I guess it won't since they have such "real lives" to live while the rest of us do nothing but game and spend money
Nothing is worse than the "real lives" argument. As if everyone else doesn't have one. It's not an excuse, and you know it. Companies can do one of two things with this: they can own up that they won't do it and they don't care to take the time, or they can try to do better and start posting pics. /Devil's advocate mode off. |

someone make Kelley's Heroes figs from the movie
and take pics of them

I have always wanted 20mm figures for the Kelly's Heroes movie characters. Don Lowry I have to disagree with you- one of my favorite movies of all time. If you are looking for historical accuracy maybe you can discount it some, but what a fun movie and they DO try to make the Tigers actually look like Tigers! At the time they were the best Tiger Is done in a movie. |

The Dead arose and walked the earth and were seen by many. But actually not bad idea to resurrect this. Surely someone would risk making some characters from the film. The art is to not name them as such. Copyright probably applies! |

Hahah thanks Deadhead. I love the movie so thought I'd be safe replying to a thread. Maybe one day we will see some figures! |
