I've started a little blog with details of my obsession with collecting larger 28mm ancients and about a Roman campaign we've been running recently. Do drop by! Cheers, Simon |

Great work on the minis! But Marius loosing to the Cimbri and Teutones? What is the world coming to? :) Mike B |

Nice – but it needs a picture of the bat in question

Marius losing twice in a row, and Sulla dead! They just had a lot better cards than me, and I rolled down. That's my excuse
Hi Streetline, yes I was thinking I should get Batty out for a photo op. I trust you are well? Simon |

All well but job got crunched and I'm currently an MSc student. Hence mid-PM bloggingfest. I'm going to Salute with our mutual French friend; have you seen his blog? gloarmy.blogspot.com Simon |

For your ancient campaign, what rules are you using to resolve battles? |

Hi Simon, I played them once. rather like them. I think they make an excellent set for campaign games. Interesting without being complicated and most importantly
.fast! John |

Yes- takes about 2 – 2.5 hours to play a 900 figure game to a conclusion, which is just about how long we have! Simon |

Nice blog! I found it from "ironmitten". How about some more details about how the campaign is being run? |
BigRedBat | 15 Jan 2009 4:03 a.m. PST |
Hi Skeptic, We tried and just couldn't get a regular campaign mechanism sorted, so we started to refight the battles of the Marian era in chronological order, starting with Arausio, then Aquae Sextiae and Vercellae, dicing to see who would play each general. Because the Romans lost Vercellae I added a further non-historical battle, and we'll need at least one other because that, too was lost by the Romans. The campaign has departed from the run of history! In the (hopeful) event that the Germans are eventually beaten, we'll probably get stuck into the Social War next, with Mithridatic interludes. I would very much like to do an EIR era campaign with players building and controlling armies, and politicking, and hopefully will be able to do that later in the year
once I have painted enough Auxilia. Cheers Simon |

I would just like to add that the heroic victory
nay total humiliation of the Roman Army
.was mostly due to the way the Germans were led
rather than any luck or misfortune on the part of the Romans (who even tried a sneaky flank attack!)

It was all down to luck; in hindsight Marius rather regrets barbecueing the sacred chickens on the evening before the battle! That flank attack might just have changed the outcome
I just needed to roll a "flag", or two

Simon, I wish that we were closer! We would have one hell of a campaign! ROMA VICTOR maybe the next time. Cheers Mike Adams |

Hi Mike, yes it would be fun. I do hope the Romans win next time (unless I'm playing the Germans, that is!). Simon |
