Yesterday I began fulfilling one of my New Year Resolutions – attend more HoTT competition days.

My new army was based on 'Sharpe's Enemy' and consisted of -

1 x Magician General (Wellington)
1 x Hero (Sharpe)
5 x Shooters (South Essex plus chosen men)
1 x Artillery (RHA Rocket troop)
1 x Knights (British Cavalry)
1 x Lurker (More rifles)

Game 1
Faced with an army of Dinosaurs which included a purple T Rex, I got stomped. Barney and his mates first chewed up my right flank – including Sharpe himself – and then dispatched both my rocket battery and most of the South Essex. 0 – 1

Game 2
Facing Daleks – who bravely refused to advance against my shooters – I dispatched his water lurker 3 times before forcing the river crossing. Again Sharpe and his chosen men died – this time to the firepower of the robo-men – before his line of Daleks ground the South Essex into submission.
0 – 2

Game 3
Facing a Star Wars (Hoth) army produced my only high spot. A solid if somewhat slow advance by the Rebel infantry and Heroes gave Wellington time to dispatch both Flyers before the opposing lines closed. Again the chosen men were more useful as barricades than fighting troops, but when Han Solo and his pet monkey fell to the solid musketry of the South Essex it was game over. 1 -2

Game 4
Finally a crack at Sharpe's and the South Essex traditional enemy – the French ! 23rd C French with airboats and lasers, but French nonetheless.

The initial turn went badly with monsters leaping out of the tar pits. I managed to shoot them off, but things got worse as I lost Sharpe, the Chosen Men, 1 unit of the South Essex and the Rocket troop – again. 11 points to 2
down things were desperate until Wellington managed to ensorcel the aerial hero. Still, despite frantic bespelling and musketry, a final run by the two airboats killed more of the gallant South Essex and it was game over. 1 – 3

This is despite my worst ever performance in a HoTT performance in a competition – I finished 10th out of 12, but will certainly be back again next year.

Thanks for the report. Nice description of the action. I love the idea of Sharpe v dinosaurs, Daleks (!) or Star Wars rebels.
