This is a link to a report of the game of the scenario of the fall of the wall of Helms Deep.

That is very cool, I like the way you just did a wall section for the attack…

Very cool!

Sounds like it was a fun game.
Sounds similar to the times I have played that scenario (Ballista does nothing, crossbows are deadly, Legolas is ineffective)

That was a great battle report and nice pictures, thanks for posting the link. One comment (from someone who has never played with the GW LotR rules), why are crossbows so effective when behind a solid stone wall? From the amount of cover that the deeping wall should have provided, I find it unrealistic to think that the missile fire should have been as effective as reported. Couldn't the Rohirrim have kept an eye out for ladders while not exposing themselves to the devastating losses incurred by the crossbows?

Barks111 Jan 2009 7:08 p.m. PST

@Shawnzeppi: the 9 crossbows mostly just rolled disgustingly well. 4+ to hit, then a 4+ cover roll, then 5+ to wound.

Thanks, that explains a lot. The specific part that sounds a little fishy is the 50% cover bonus (I assume 4,5,6 on a 6 sided die hits with cover). That could work for a stone farm wall or the like, but I would give better cover for the deeping wall since its such a well built fortification and obstructs missile fire from the ground level better than that I think.

Nice set-up. Hopefully I'll get there, too.
