Anyone know of a UK stockist that carries the Chronoscope range and has online ordering?

ttauri06 Jan 2009 3:59 a.m. PST

I've been looking for a UK stockist for a few months as I'm keen to get many of them without fighting the exchange rate and US shipping costs. So far I've found no-one carrying them. Minifigs who carry some Reaper aren't going to be doing them.

I'd like to know of a source, too. I have my eye on Ape-X and Crosswire.

I normally order Reaper from leisuregames.com

However, they only stock UK produced figures (Minifigs of Southampton?). It takes a long time for new Reaper models to appear over here.

As an aside, the last Reaper order I received contained a few figs with casting imperfections, such as a squashed head, excessive extra metal and missing details. I've never had that before with Reaper, which have always been up there with the best of them. I hope it was just a glitch (models pulled from hot moulds in a a hurry?)

ttauri, I took so long before submitting my message, that you got there way before me. If Minifigs won't be doing them, then I suspect the only source will be the US. At the moment Ape-X would cost about £13.50 GBP delivered and Crosswire about £6.35.

I did try Minifigs (now called Miniature Figurines Production Ltd) and they simpley said that they don't have those figures. Checked with the Orcs Nest and they only stock the Fantasy figures.

Did consider ordering directly with Reaper but the shipping and website put me off!!!

Hi Norrins

Maybe there's hope, then, that MFP will be getting them at some point.

A while ago I asked Leisure Games about some new Reaper figures that were only available in the US. Angus replied as follows with an interesting insight into the situation:

"I'm afraid we can only currently get hold of the figures listed in our site. We order through a UK based company called Minifigs who mould all the miniatures here in the UK under license from Reaper Miniatures. This is one of the reasons why the figures you get here in the UK are a lot
sharper and more detailed mouldings than the ones from the US – because the moulds are not as heavily used.

Unfortunately the downside of this is that Minifigs only gets new moulds for the newer figures a couple of times a year (or so it seems) so not all the figures are available in the UK that are available in the US.

They will eventually come out – but I wouldn't like to say when they will be available as we have no information on the planned release schedule over here and Minifigs tend to run between 6-12 months behind the US releases it seems.

I have spoken to Reaper Miniatures about possibly buying direct from them – which is an option – although I'm still slightly concerned about the difference in quality of the figures and the detail on them.

For now though we can only supply the figures listed on our site. If this situation changes we will certainly add the other figures on as soon as we know we can start receiving them."

Hopefully this will be true of the whole Chronoscope line, as there are some interesting figures there.

I've ordered from both Minifigs and Reaper. Minifigs don't have some of the newer releases but the service is always good.

Ordering direct from Reaper to the UK has always been prompt (one to two weeks max) if you don't mind paying the extra shipping. I've tended to wait until I can place a large order as it works out more cost effective, or I've got together with friends to split the cost. Obviously the poor pound doesn't help though :(

I'm planning an order from Reaper right now (US to UK). I've done this once before and it went fine, though as uti long smile mentioned the state of the exchange rate doesn't help right now. Unfortunately some of the pieces I want have been withdrawn from general distribution, so the only way I can order them is directly through Reaper.

Norrins, have you considered Ebay? Today I ordered Chronoscope kit from a US seller (hoard_*_bits) at a 20% discount and with what I thought were very reasonable P&P charges.

Norrins06 Jan 2009 8:14 a.m. PST

Must admit I hadn't considered eBay. I'll have a look now!!!

First Class International postage from the US is reasonable, most packages go for under $10. USD I recently sent packages weighing over a pound to Japan both cost around $11.50.

spirit games – very very friendly and helpful
if they dont have it in stock they'll get it for you.

In my experience minfigs is an awful outfit to deal with, uncommunicative, unhelpful and slow.

FWIW< Miniature Figurines Productions moved in the second half of the year to a new facility. It's very possible they are working thru the backlog from Reaper that accumulated during that time.

Reaper has always kept Neil and Liz busy molding with monthly new products! That (obviously) has to stop when you have to move to a new facility, get it set up and caught up on accumulated orders. Things will sort themselves out over time, I am confident.

I contacted Minifigs over Christmas re Chronoscope and received this reply:

"Hi

We have never had these figures, and 'I'm sorry to say we don't think we
will be getting them any time soon"

So I don't hold out much hope of them being available through Minifigs in the UK in any sort of reasonable timescale.

Norrins07 Jan 2009 2:54 a.m. PST

Looking at the ebay option, I've been quoted $11.29 USD via USPS first class mail for 6 Chronoscope figures. The only downside with the exchange rate is that I'm looking at £2.73 GBP£3.55 GBP per figure.

Did check with Spirit Games and they've only got the fantasy figs.

Serenity08 Jan 2009 11:29 a.m. PST

I haven't ordered from them personally, but Miniature Giant has a good reputation in the US and they ship overseas. In addition, they have at least a 26% discount on Reaper figures, including OOP figures.

Their web site is at miniature-giant.com

The only problem with ordering from the US, is if the the order total is more than £18, there's the potential for HMRC to levy duty – I've just been hit on an order from ADB!!! What I saved on postage, I lost on the duty!!!
