At that height and weight you would have made the perfect Maj. Wheat.

That is whom I portrayed at the event. It was a fantastic scene to see that battalion on line. I have some picture of that event which I think was around 1988

I also have served as COS for the ANV and COS for PACS And commanded one of the Manassass events back then. I retired from the hobby around 5 years ago but have dome back and now forming a sharpshooter company within Mahones Brigade here in southeast Virginia.

What type of weapons are your sharpshooters ging to be using? Whitworths would be nice but a bit pricey.

We have two whitworths in the unit with two men armed with three band enfields. The other two three man sections are armed with enfields and I am armed with a Cook and Brother sharpshooter rifle from New Orleans in 61 that I built in my shop.

So, how were sharpshooter units deployed during a battle or a skirmish? This would be something that I have no idea about. I've never seen a sharpshooter unit at a reenactment.

Read Shock Troops of the Confederacy by Ray, its a good rudimentary start.

I attended a sharpshooters school with the Pricess Anne Greys under Mick Hendricks at Pamplin Park a few years back, this book along with Mahones was quite useful. CS Sharpshooters moved fast and more often then not in skirmish order. The CVG often does a sharpshooter impression, either McGowan's or Lee's. We will be doing the impression at one or two events this yeat depending on member registration.

Let me know where, I'd like to see you in action. I don't get too far east often, but it might be worth the trip.

Certainly, its a lot of fun if you have never done it. I know we will be doing it at Cedar Creek this year. The schedule has not been updated yet but I imagine it will be soon…

With my unit being spread over Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan where we are going to be is a matter of who can get out the most e-mails the fastest. But the Sgt. Major usually makes good decisions and spreads us around so we hit at least one in each state during the season.
