Hello everyone, This is probably a stupid question, but I'm about to start painting a bunch of Victrix Peninsula British Infantry. Initially for collecting purposes and because I've always hankered after a 28mm Napoleonic army and could never bring myself to part with the cash for enough metals, but ultimately I hope to game with them. I need to know if there's a convention for basing flank companies in units where the total number of figures is 30? There is an example in the GdeB rules for 40 figure battalions where you base both flank companies on individual 4 figure bases. That would suggest that you base flank companies for a 30 figure battalion as 3 figures, but 3 figures would require a 4 figure base anyway and there is a suggestion in the same section, that odd companies, such as grenadier companies left behind after the detachment of light companies can be represented by 4 figure bases. Does this just apply to the 40 figure example, or does it apply across the board? Does it matter? Am I thinking about this too much? I did think that I could base my battalion like this: G III III III III L GG III IOC CDI III LL Which solves the problem, what does everyone else think? Thanking you in advance Chris |

Mmmh, that didn't come out quite as I expected on the diagram front! Top line should be shunted across and it all looked so good before I posted it! lol |

That's how I'd do it. I actually use 16 figure battalions and don't bother representing the flank companies at all, but if your unit's a convenient multiple of 10 you may as well
. 2 of each in the front rank and 1 in the rear rank is probably the best solution for a 30 figure unit. |

I think when it comes to the Brits, a lot of people have the light company permanently detached and formed into the Brigade Skirmish screen. A 30 figure battalion could be based as five bases of six figures each. I would put three Grenadiers in the Front rank of one base and then you need to decide if the rest of the figures are all centre company or use three light company figures on the front of another base. Have a look at the General De Brigade website as this has been duscused on the forum a few times. cheers, Simon |

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions. I'm probably looking at display in the short term, so I'd like to include both flank companies, so I'll take your advice and check out the web site. Cheers Chris |

or reduce to 24 figs and use the spare figs as individual skirmishers, I do this because most brit btns were low strength for the campaign, although some will be 32 and even 36 |
