I'm going to be in Savannah this weekend and plan to see Fort Pulaski while I am there. Are there any other historical sites [other than the city itself] associated with the Civil War or the Revolution which should not be missed? Thanks, John |

There is a decent ACW museum in the downtown train station in Savannah (which was turned into a city museum). |

John Heck yeah! Fort Pulaski is the big ol' brick fort, but equally as cool is Fort Mcallister which is an earthen fort. It lasted most of the war and had to be taken the old fashioned way, by the Infantry. link It is worth seeing and not too far from Pulaski. Very cool. |

I second the Train Station Museum. They have some pretty neat stuff to see. VR James Mattes |

All of downtown is nice and much is Revolution-Civil war era. At 342 Bull Street is a Civil War era Armory that is now one of the main buildings for the Savannah College of Art and Design (You can tell from the two cannons hanging vertically at the main entrance). Go down to River street and see the older buildings as well (And grab a pint at Kevin Barry's) |

If you'd like to peruse a great 1721-1727 Fort, try Ft. King George in Darien about 45 minutes down the road from Savannah. Darien has a number of interesting spots as well, being the town the 54th Mass helped burn. Oh, and I second Kevin Barry's! |

Old Fort Jackson is close to downtown; worth a visit. Wormsloe Plantation on Isle of Hope is the remains of a 1740 house with a nice museum. It's one of my favourite places in Savannah. The former superintendant, a good friend of mine, had some very, very nice 15mm displays with figures – I'm not sure if they remain since he retired. Morning Star Games on Montgomery Cross Road is well worth a visit (open every day except Monday) – some historicals, lots of books, usual GW, FoW, Reaper, boardgames etc. |

If you're a WWII buff at all, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Savannah, while you're there. |

The Old Customs Office, if it is open on the weekend, has some interesting stuff on display in the lobby. The front steps are where Sherman was when he reviewed his troops. |

Fort Pulaski is very interesting, and I'm sure it is better to visit in January than August when I visited. Be sure to see Fort Jackson too. It's closer to town, a bit smaller to navigate and there was some great living history action when I was there in 1999. Savannah is a beautiful city; I'd love to go back. Kevin |
