I'm thinking of starting a Later Frankish and/or Norman army when the FoG supplement comes out in April but was wondering which range of figures would be best to use?

Ideally, I'd like a Breton army but these are listed as allies of the Later Franks and Normans rather than as a seperate force. Nonetheless, I'd be interested in any suggestions you might have for figures ranges which are nice sculpts with a variety of poses and with a complete enough coverage to enable me to build up a full army.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Yup, Bretons usually part of a Norman or Frankish army.

Essex is a great choice. Also, consider Museum, Black Hat, Old glory 15s and 50 Paces/MinWars.

One way to differentiate your Bretons from your Normans would be to give the more conservative Bretons round shields, as opposed to the more modern kite shields of the Normans.

I would suggest Outpost for Normans they fit with Essex sizewise, are good figures and have lots of variety. Mine are a mixture of both. You will find them in the Crusades range. Pictures online.

Take a look at Legio Heroica, really nice figs and Giuseppe is a pleasure to deal with.

Essex – I have them and they are the best for the period you are looking to paint.

I know you asked for a full range, but if you can wait a little while (they're not released yet wink) then the figures coming soon from khurasan look rather luvverly.

Incidentally, can anyone tell me if the Essex Breton heavy cavalry (pack NA9) have round or kite shields?

I'd go for Museum Miniatures' Normans evry time.
Excellent detail.
