This is my version of the pledge. I've decided to paint at least 1 hour a night (more if I can and am willing to). I will not buy anything to start a new project until my old projects are done or have left the bulding via e-bay or the HMGS flea market.

So far I am doing quite well. I am painting around 2 hours in a sitting if I paint at all. I missed new years day for painting but have painted the last two nights. So, yes. My 1 hour a night is an average. There will be those days that I simply can't paint.

In 2009 so far I've nearly completed 17 Thessalian heavy cavalry. I have to ink wash and base them. Then it's on to 9 stands (36 figures) of Macedonian pikemen. Then there is a horde of Gallic warriors (around 150 figures) to finish off my Gallic Army. I am aiming for the end of the month for these projects. I don't really think I will finish everything but I will get a good dent into the Gauls.

Good for you! Like you, I'm aiming to paint a certain period of time, rather than going by numbers of miniatures painted versus purchased. My goal is 4 hours a week, and since this week was vacation, I've already got about 7. Good -luck in the next year!

I've got a couple of goals based on upcoming games I hope to play. I just helped convince a friend who used to play 40k to drop some cash on a starter Tau army, so I feel an obligation to get some Space Marines and Orks painted up. Once I finish this squad of ten that I'm working on I'll already have painted half of my total from last year. After painting 22 figures in a 2008 there's nowhere to go but up.

Good luck! Although the "I will not buy anything to start a new project until…" bit may be hard to hold to, unless you define project fairly broadly (it would be for me, anyway).

I once tried something like this, but then it began to feel like work. So I stopped. Now, I only paint if I feel like it. Lately, most of my efforts have concentrated on board games (I dislike painting).

I enjoy painting so this is not a problem. My problem is that I find it hard to get started (setting up etc). Once I do get started, I generally have fun and it is pretty relaxing to me.

I am taking the Pledge this year as well. I have pledged to paint more figures than I purchase this year and so far I am ahead of the game! I haven't purchased any new figures (yet!) and I finished 8 figures beginning January 1, 2009, and have set in motion a painting program for my game group – an Escalation League where we paint up small forces and continually expand upon them over the year. I hope I can maintain my commitment levels over the course of the year!

Christmas/New Year was as good time for me – didn't take any photos or anything, but finished about 40 infantry and a dozen cavalry, completely painted another 24 infantry and have nearly finished a batch of 20 infantry.

You will be pleasantly surprised at how many figures end up getting painted when you use the "one hour per day" method. I've been doing it for years. I painted 800 figures last year as a result.

nycjadie05 Jan 2009 9:31 a.m. PST

Last year I had a goal of 365 for the year. This year I'm going to bump it up to 450. Not easy when you're painting samurai and LOTR miniatures. So far, I haven't painted anything this year!

I suppose it would be nice to paint for "one hour per day" as a guide, but then again, I don't have the luxury of being able to budget that much time for painting with 4 kids between the ages of 3 and 8, work (which consumes odd hours on occasions as trials loom), my girlfriend, parents, brother, nephew, and my commitments to the local game store owner to run events. It all eats up time and energy. For me, it is the attempt to actually paint MORE figures than I purchase – rather than paying someone else to paint them.

Finished 8 15mm cav after I got offline last night. Still have 6 25mm Byzantine to finish and 32 15mm billmen primed and ready to go. Next up in quey, about 120 15mm pike.

I did something like "the pledge" for years. But now I have all the stuff I need/want to play what I need/want to, so I don't paint. If I ever need something new, I will just sit down to the project with my free time till it is done. I like to finish any project as quickly as possible….
