Looks like they may be in for a long detention:

Good for the Danes! Well done! thumbs up

You know, this little operation's beginning to display all the earmarks of a gameable scenario.

Those Danes chew nail as a snack.

Griefbringer03 Jan 2009 11:17 a.m. PST

Getting captured by the Danes? Pretty embarrassing for any serious pirate. Would have been better to get captured by Norwegians at least.

Ex-vikings are ex-vikings…

At least someone's locking them up. A lot of other people are realizing they don't want to be stuck with them, or that they don't have any piracy laws on the books any more that they can use to prosecute people.

Hang 'em from the yard-arm! What, no yard-arms any more? Maybe the radio antenna?

skaran03 Jan 2009 12:06 p.m. PST

Yah could still keel haul them ayy.

Oddball03 Jan 2009 12:34 p.m. PST

Some times you eat the bear. Some times the bear eats you.

Well done Denmark.

Top Gun Ace03 Jan 2009 12:41 p.m. PST

In the absence of a more suitable method of justice, and incarceration, I'm in favor of that old past-time, plank-walking…..

Ironsides03 Jan 2009 12:46 p.m. PST

We have done it before but had to release the culprits as there were no one who could prosecute so I will wait and see what happens this time.

Last time we made them walk the plank right onto Yemeni soil.

quidveritas03 Jan 2009 12:52 p.m. PST

Prosecute?

What ever happened to hanging them between the high and low tide water marks?

The Danes are are pretty crusty. They seem get down to the nitty gritty in " Yugoslavia " and Afghanistan as well. No peeing about being nice to the enemy, just bash the beggars!

Tankrider03 Jan 2009 1:49 p.m. PST

KEEL HAUL!

Top Gun Ace03 Jan 2009 2:20 p.m. PST

Walking the plank really loses its deterrence effect, if the other end is on a shore, or dock…..

;-)

The Danes intercepted and sank the vessel after the freight ship crew set it on fire with a distress signal rocket, forcing the suspected pirates into the water.

well done freight ship crew…

15% chance of a hit, per round fired vs. small boats, 25% vs. medium sized boats, and 35% vs. trawlers, and other ships.

80% chance of starting a fire, if combustibles are in the area, or the vessels are made of hypalon, wood, etc.

Give the pirates one saving throw of putting it out, with a 50% chance of success. If unsuccessful, and in a small boat, they abandon ship.

For larger vessels, they get another chance of putting out the fire, but since it will be larger, a 25% chance of success. For trawler sized vessels, give them a third try to put out the fire, with a 10% chance of success against the now very large fire.

Top Gun Ace03 Jan 2009 5:32 p.m. PST

Pirates get a 10% chance of survival if forced to walk the plank, at sea.

An 85% chance of rescue, if NATO ships are nearby (within visual sight), if they must abandon ship.

A 15% chance if rescue vessels are not within visual sight of the vessel they abandon, or at night.

The multi-national character of the enforcing fleet will make for quite a scenario. Just the communications issues (frequencies, codes, protocols, and worst of all, language) would open the door to all kinds of random misunderstandings. Then mix in each nation's unique agenda and ROE's, the occasional headstrong captain who doesn't like taking orders from whoever's nominally in charge, and a bit of mutual mistrust here and there, and you've got the potential for a wild night's gaming.

Vikings v Pirates.

(OK, I know it is quite right, but it is a nice idea.)

Latest score 5-0.

Top Gun Ace04 Jan 2009 3:58 p.m. PST

Not to be outdone, the French have caught a couple of groups:

Language shouldn't be a problem. Almost all international(inter military)radio traffic is done in English, even if it's broken English.
