As there are pre-painted 1/72 Tiger Tanks going for £1.99 GBP with a new magazine over here, I was wondering how many to a unit there was
Cheers, Mick |

Well, there's about 12 of us at the club most nights, so 10, as Robin won't do historicals and Tom won't finish his. |

deploy more than 4 and you'll be called a power gamer. |
| Mick A | 03 Jan 2009 4:37 a.m. PST |
Robin has played WWII tanks before
Got 3 Tigers so far :-) |

I have to agree with 4Kingshaw, deploy more than 4 and you will be accused of having a Tiger Fetish, (unless your playing Kursk of Course :) |
| bandit86 | 03 Jan 2009 5:21 a.m. PST |
I have 12 or more for FOW but I don't play I paint and I just like Tigers |
| normsmith | 03 Jan 2009 5:26 a.m. PST |
You might need 4 for a historical tactical scenario, but I think 1 or 2 is about right for generic games. |

Depends what rules you're using, figure/model scale and whether you're using rule lists or historical TOEs. |
| PaulTimms | 03 Jan 2009 6:19 a.m. PST |
I bought 3, they are pretty good value for £6.00 GBP They wouldn't be bad for £6.99 GBP or whatever the full price is, if you subscribe there is a fantastic Sdkfz 9 and trailer. Only shame is that it's all the stuff you'd expect, Panther, Jagdpanther,T34 etc and modern stuff which doesn't interest me. |

Heehee I am planning on picking 4 up, just to have them available as I am sure at some point in the future they will come in handy. Now which issue is going to have the PZ IV is the question as I need lots of them. |

Depends on which part of the year we are talking about. I think the first deployment was in a mixed battalion of Tigers and Panzer IIIs (about two companies of each). This was then later replaced by a pure Tiger battalion of 45 tanks, 3 at the battalion HQ and 3 companies of 14 tanks each. Griefbringer |
Beowulf | 03 Jan 2009 7:26 a.m. PST |
One full company would be great, if only for your display cabinet! For games, I agree 2-4 is all you'll need. |
| Martin Rapier | 03 Jan 2009 9:30 a.m. PST |
Unless you are doing historical games where full Tiger companies or battalions were present, like say the 503rd at Goodwood. There weren't many Tigers at Kursk, despite its rep, just a few companies scattered among the divisions on the southern flank, plus two battalions of 'Tigers' aka Ferdinands on the northern flank. A basic late war Tiger platoon is four tanks, company three such platoons plus two HQ tanks. |

I agree 2-4 is all you'll need. I need my eyes testing.. I read that as 24
Just bought 2 of them they are rather nice

Three, if you're gaming Kelly's Heroes. For any other usage, the answer is "more." |
| Top Gun Ace | 03 Jan 2009 10:35 a.m. PST |
Three for the Wittmann scenario, although really you could probably do most of it with one. I suggest gaming this as a solo scenario, since few may want to play the British side against him. Then again, if they like tea, and a challenge, have at it! |
| Top Gun Ace | 03 Jan 2009 10:36 a.m. PST |
The aftermath of his "Thunder Run", with German supporting forces moving in, and doing battle with the British might be more interesting, for both sides. |
| Griefbringer | 03 Jan 2009 11:26 a.m. PST |
And remember, there is no such thing as too many tanks – just too small gaming tables. Griefbringer |

Why did someone have to say about 'Kelly's Heroes'? Sorry James, its not my fault this time

14 to the company, but that's before they try to move. After they break down on the way to the front (or get strafed, bombed or rocketed) 4 ought to be about right. |

Do not think the Tiger and Herr Wittmann are magic cure-alls for the Gamer's Curse! Two friends ran this very scenario, and the German player burst through the hedgerow at point-blank range, surprised the Tommies at tea, and
missed every point-blank shot but two (I think he suppressed one Sherman and destroyed another) out of thirty or so (IIRC). The British promptly beat the tar out of his kampfgruppe (and killed him, into the bargain). So it's not the size of the tank
it's how you, um, roll the dice. |
| donlowry | 04 Jan 2009 3:02 p.m. PST |
Yep. Good dice-rolling beats good strategy and/or tactics every time. |

Been through the tiger fetish faze, got quite a few tigers and king tigers sitting in boxes somewhere in my loft.Never used more than 3 on a table, even then took up too much space. I'm now into Char B1 and Matildas. just as much fun in early war . |
| Lion in the Stars | 05 Jan 2009 3:21 p.m. PST |
14 to a Company, but Wittmann's wild ride assumes 5 (total) tigers out of the 14 in the company, with Wittmann running solo and 4 others hitting the brits on the hill. You really don't need more than 4-5 (I only own two, and one King Tiger). |
| Mick A | 05 Jan 2009 4:29 p.m. PST |
Cheers everyone, got 4 of them now
