My CO base and a "how to" tutorial to go along with

Can't resolve myself to add vegetation, although I know that Afghanistan can be very green as well. Just have the movie "the Beast" in mind.

Really nice. I find it interesting how you and some others I've seen, add the vehicles and figures and then do the base painting. My own preference is to completely finish figures and vehicles before adding to the base. However, one simply cannot dispute that your method gives beautiful results.

Hi Tim, I found out only recently that this method actually cuts the modelling time by roughly 30%.

Here is the rest of the battlegroup, pics are now online:

Interesting method. I don't see myself basing 6mm figures in this fashion, but if I did, I'd give it a try.

Thanks for the tutorial.

I haven't seen the 'mount the figures then paint' approach but it certainly works well for you, those units look great.

How do you paint in those fiddly details such as faces, weapons etc. while on such a large base?

I almost always "base before i paint". I usually built 15mm but sometimes 6mm.

When I paint I paint very "impressionistic. That is it looks good from a distance (about 3 feet). I you look real close it looks bad. But from normal viewing distande it looks real good. I use pretty strong colours that contrast nicely to make you see the figures. First spray them black, then paint the arms legs body with one color and then a few strokes of a lighter colour along the legs and arms as highlight.

On 6mm figurs faces are just a small "blob" of skin paint. Rifles I just paint black.

Very Nice Job ! Looks Great ! All I do is 6mm Sci-fi(G/W, DRM, E/W, GZG)and I assure you my figures faces don't look like a little blob of paint. Go to the Tactical Command site, you will note those boyz are very talented in 6mm modeling … 8-D

The model stays on better if you stick it to the base first.
Nice job – well done
