Something like Strange Tyde by Wessex Games only in pre-gun-powder era/tech and for fleet level actions in a game. I'll pass on anything by GW, please, as a matter of personal choice. Compatible with 1:1200 scale ships would be ideal, again for personal choice. Same approximate scale as Aeronef, et. al., if possible. link Strange Tydes – 1/1200th fantasy naval warfare in the "age of sail" for reference. If such doesn't exist what might convert easily? Gracias, Glenn |

I did some work on variants of ST that was set in an alt-Far Eastern background (inspired by the Osprey books on Japanese, Chinese and Korean ships), and something more akin to pre-gunpowder aspects (alt- ancients). I'm not sure where the files ended up. Maybe if there was sufficient interest I could pick them up again and develop them. |

Have you seen Uncharted Seas yet? The ships are stunning, although they're 1/600th. There's no reason, though, that you couldn't use 1/1200th ships to the same effect. I understand that it is very similar to GW's Man o War, but I never played that, so I couldn't say. Ship pictures are at spartangames.co.uk. The ships are armed with gunpowder cannon, but the Dragon Lords are armed with ballistae. Humans have sailing ships, rather like Spanish galleons; orcs are similar to galleys, dwarfs (of course) are armored ships (looking like Monitors and Merrimacs). Dragon Lords are similar to standard sailing ships but have weird sails. The human "battleship" is about 5" long. |

Well, if you're passing on Man O' War, widely regarded as one of the best games GW ever produced (not to mention one of the least supported by GW), then, yeah, I'd go with Uncharted Seas. If you change your mind on MoW, check out the Yahoo group: link Even if you don't like MoW, there are lots of photos of GW ships as well as kitbashes and scratchbuilds, as well as top, side, front, and back images so you can create your own proxy counters, etc. Ship scale varies, but roughly from 1/900 to /1200, depending on the ship. You might be further ahead tacking a few fantasy elements onto a set of pre-gunpowder historical naval rules. |

If you change your mind on MoW, check out the Yahoo group: link Why, does that have the rules, as well as scans of the control sheets and counters? . At present, his dislike of GW games is pretty academic, really. |
