OK, I did a final PDF of my skirmish rules for late medievals, and tried them out with my son – on the dining table, thus the name of the game = )

An inspiring battle report Merlin. Wargaming at its best.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

:-)

Ooops ! I deleted my page by mistake and had to reconstruct it without a backup. Sorry for the down time and the differences, if anyone noticed (your memory is fine :))

I updated the skirmish rules to add in pikes and light mounted archers. We are playing with the Schleich castle that we got for Christmas: so far, my son (prince Ricardo) has whupped his daddy twice; once with me charging the open ("bait") gate; and once again when I hired some crusader mercenaries to "punish" the "heretic" (my son). We used a packing form (that came with my daughter's boombox) as an impromptu "belfrey" and attacked the wall with at least height parity; but my long pikes were not brought into play sufficient time before the defending marksmen destroyed the "belfrey" which was consumed in flames, killing two of my men and leaving two more already on the battlements to their fate. A second assault is being planned: also with pictures, which I shall post later.

I have added the promised pictures and "Chapter Two" of my war with my son, prince Richard. "He's grandpa's favorite, and has threatened to make him his heir. From my perspective, chapter Two is not pretty. Enjoy.

So much for 'proper' terrain!

Who made that 54mm siege piece that looks kinda like a spoon?

Daffy Doug27 Jan 2005 10:59 a.m. PST

Hah. Hah. The suggestion of using "little green round things" (peas) as ammo for the spoon-like device, was not received well by the residents of the castle.

We are searching for the quick and lazy way out of our seige equipment dilemma. If anyone knows of such-like that are available in scale with c. 3.5 inch tall figures, please post to this thread at once: we want a battering ram, ladders, a siege tower or belfrey, catapults, you know, the works....

I added "Chapter Three" to my ongoing story. Ricky and I played this out during the Christmas holidays. It took that long for me to get this thing updated…

As no one had any ideas for siege equipment, I made some myself. We haven't used it yet in a game. The 25mm figures, and 90mm figures, and RL-sized pieces of my reenactment equipment, are sprawled all over my gaming table — indication that gaming has not been going on lately.

Humphrey; they really look good!

Daffy Doug22 Mar 2006 3:48 p.m. PST

Thanks. And coincidentally, a couple of days after I posted the above ( about not gaming lately ) , my friend, Eric, ( "king Eric" ) , called to explain that RL has returned to normal ( I do not know what was going on to make it abnormal, but can guess, as his job is threatened, his house is still being paid for, and his little girl is a corker, then you have to consider the wife's needs, etc. ) , and he can now come and finish our Lamoria campaign. So hopefully I will be making an update on TMP link soon, maybe this weekend….

Daffy Doug22 Mar 2006 3:48 p.m. PST

Crap, that didn't work. How do you make text a link on TMP? Time to go ask Bill….

Hey, hey, hey, here it is: CHAPTER FOUR. My rebellious son has stomped my butt once again.

If anyone new to this (four year-old!!) thread is puzzled by the names above: this is a good collection of my "a k a" that I have used on TMP in the last four years. Originally, "Merlin the Mad", followed by "Humphrey GoldenBleeped text" (my favorite), and now of course, you see the one I have no intention of ever changing, really, I mean it.

Daffy Doug22 Oct 2007 11:44 a.m. PST

(sheesh, forgot the "bleep", that should read Goldenbo**ocks)

.."with c. 3.5 inch tall figures, please post to this thread at once: we want a battering ram, ladders, a siege tower or belfrey, catapults, you know, the works"….

G and C hobbies in Lantana, Florida has several beautiful pieces (ballistas, battering ram, catapults) that are wood and metal model kits, that look to be in that scale.

Oh, the link:

gnchobbies.com

I haven't checked their online cataolg, but I go there all the time and they are on the wall with wooden ship models.

Hey, hey, hey, Chapter Five. Looks like an end to hostilities with my son. I am king Merlin II now.

However, we have enemies all around, pizzing downstream when we are bathing, and not sharing our religious proclivities. Enormous opportunities for further trouble abound, with a little ingenuity….

Fubulous

Daffy Doug18 Mar 2009 11:42 a.m. PST

Thank you.

I was looking over this projected release link , for emir Ibn Ali al-Mumit al-Masaffah's next "incarnation": he looks like a cool fantasy knight and might make a great warlord leading a pack of "Saracens". The reason for the change would be that we have bought a total of five of the lancer figure, and thus the emir is no longer unique. (My goal was/is to make the Saracen army large enough to take on any two of the other three armies at once.)

Tom Bryant27 Mar 2009 9:05 p.m. PST

Nicely done Doug!. You may want to check with the creators of KOTD and ask them about using their name for your game. I realize this is a "homebrew" rules set but it would be a nice gesture and they might just offer some artwork for it if you ask nice. Well done sir.

Daffy Doug28 Mar 2009 8:07 a.m. PST

Ah. I was sort of waiting for someone else to mention that. Actually, I've created a link to the KotDT Website. So if that wouldn't satisfy them I'd be much surprised, as it is a piece of puny free advertising: and my "use" of their title doesn't benefit me or hurt them, at, all….
