I agree, but I have a couple of books of pictures (black and white photos, some drawings) from the period and they showed gun slings that were definitely black, some that were definitely brown, and some that were a lighter color so I went with a light gray hoping the dip would darken it more than it did…the next unit will have brown, definitely brown :)

thanks for the input!!

They look great to me.

I'm sure there may have been some white canvas slings but not many. I've never seen any but that could be because the material might have rotted away. The issue slings for the union were brown but after months of sweating and dirt they look awfully black. I know mine does. There again, they could have issued some black but it was probably cheaper to just provide brown because blackening them is another step. The light colors in B&W photos could just be a sun glare off of the sling making it appear whitish.

Over all group photos. Very sharp and a good look of the unit.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the sky blue trousers on Rebs. Yes they could have taken them off dead/wounded Yanks and/or been issued them as per Longstreet's corps out West. Many gamers paint ONLY sky blue which seems really silly to me but… to each his own. In a regiment of 30+ models I'll have no more than two if that many. I'm nuts that way. I also don't buy the standard gamer 'ragged Reb' look either. So… what the hell do I know?!

I like to see IF I can find what a unit was issued and then fit this into the time frame I'm playing. If they were just re-issued something I have the majority of the models painted the same. If the time frame is much later I add wider variety of colored items. I change the trousers more than their shells as a rule of thumb. The trousers get blown out faster that their shells.

That should read, "Over all great photos."

I echo avidgamer's suggestions/comments.
