Being an Air War and Wings AT War fan I was wondering if there are rules of a similar nature out for WW2?

WW1 has Duel of Aces and Air War:1918.

Air War C:21 (and Falklands supplement,) MiG Alley, Wings over Suez, Thud Ridge, and Flames over the Falklands cover modern combat.

I am unaware of any rules for WW2 that are like these rules. Any suggestions?

Gracias,

Glenn

Check the Wings At War site – there's a free sample set for Arab-Israeli 1948, which obviously is all WW2 types, so shouldn't need much work….

You might want to check out Luftwaffe 46. It does away with some of the complexity of the Blue Skies series. Might be what you are looking for. Not sure exactly what you like in the rules you mention. I have several of them though and like them as you do.

Thanks Dom! I forgot about those. Too busy going through the more obvious (i.e., I have miniatures for wars "X, Y, and Zee") [arts of the web site.

Will have to check out the rules now that I have downloaded them!

Gracias,

Glenn

"…You might want to check out Luftwaffe 46…"

Hmm, had dismissed those since I try and keep my hysterical…I mean historical…and SF and Fantasy all widely seperated. Guess it's time for some research.

Glenn

There is also a Wings at War Arab-Israeli 1948 PDF at the 1/600th Yahoo site in the Free Rules section in the Files area :) Glenn. Along with a few other sets of rules. Robert

Glenn, Most of the planes in Luftwaffe 46 are the historical WWII aircraft. The scenarios are all 1946 what-ifs so you are paying for some things you dont need.

UNless I'm missing something, you could try – Dawn of War. This is the WW2 version of Wings of War.

Unless I'm missing something,

Afraid so; Wings AT War has absolutely no connection with Wings OF War….

I wasn't clear if you are looking for simple or complex rules from this. Air War the SPI game or something else? That's about as complex as you can get! A WWII equivalent would be the air series by Clash of Arms – easily adaptable for minis. If you want easy, I found Check Your 6 and Blue Skies to be great games.

Wings At War is very much at the quick and easy end of the spectrum; personally I generally play Luftwaffe 46 these days (same fundamentals as Blue Skies), but the WAW sets are more abstracted than even those for combat, but with an element of strategy and even mission planning that most air games lack.
