A new biography on the condottieri leader of the 14th century, Sir John Hawkwood: Chivalry and the Art of War, by Stephen Cooper, is just about out now. You can find a short review, table of contents, and excerpt from chapter 7: Leadership and Chivalry, is now available on the OMM website: link To be at the shop next week. Looks like an interesting book, and one which should sell well. I just wish more information had been included on the battles, but no doubt, concrete info on that may be hard to find, as for many of them from that time. |

I read the recent biography of Hawkwood "The Devil's Broker". I was surprised by the number of times he was defeated. I suppose he learned his discretion from those. |

Let's hope it's better than that one by Stonor Saunders. Well written, but it said more about the author than it did about the subject. |
