Hello everyone. I'm starting up a new blog to post miniature gaming related content. I plan on including pictures of my painting projects, battle reports, campaign reports, rewiews of miniatures, rules, and books, links to resources for gaming or historical information, and perhaps other things. It will be updated frequently for a while, as I transfer over pictures of miniatures from my old blog. Then I'll be making updates concerning my current project, which is American Civil War in 10mm. And some general information about historical gaming which will hopefully help others to find good historical resources, rules, and miniatures. Please feel free to comment. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions for things to post about, or just comments about the blog. I haven't done much blogging before, aside from just posting pictures of miniatures I painted. Here's the link: link |

Glad to see that you have the correct "wargames blog background" picked out!:) Good luck, blogging is fun! |

That is, of course, the official wargames blog generic background, which can be seen behind most of the better blogs. Like mine. Shameless plug, I know. |

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! Yeah, I didn't intentionally copy that blog color scheme from anyone. It just seemed somewhat appropriate, especially if there ends up being a lot of historical stuff in the blog. It looks old-fashioned. |

I think I'm going to plan on updating every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the near future. At least until I've posted all of the pictures I had up on my previous blog. After that, I'll probably try to post once a week, every Friday. Right now it's all Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 stuff. After that will be some 10mm Civil War stuff. So check it out, and let me know what you think. I'm a pretty novice blogger, so if you have any suggustions feel free to leave a comment. If it's just a general comment out the blog and not about a specific post, I guess you can leave the comment on the introductory post. link |

I have an interesting series of posts planned for my blog this week. I am going to talk about how I got into historical wargaming and my first explorations into the hobby. I thought that might be interesting in a nostalgic way for some people, or others might just enjoy laughing at how much of a noob I am. But it might also be useful for other people who are also just starting to read about some of the things I have discovered so far. Part 1 is up today, part 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, and Part 3 for Friday. So enjoy, and let me know what you think. If any of you who have been in the hobby much longer have any comments or suggestions, I would really appreciate them. And next week, I'll start posting photos and descriptions of my current project, which is painting 10mm American Civil War union miniatures. So please check back in next week for some pictures of those. Here's the link again: link |

Today I've posted a review of the Warhammer Historical Great War rule book. So come check it out if you're interested in or curious about that game. link |

Albino Squirrel, The pictures you posted about the heavy artillery need correcting. The carriages of the guns should be painted green/gray and the barrels should be painted black. The guns (Parrot rifles) were iron so they had to paint them so not bronze like the Napoleons. |

Thanks for the corrections avidgamer. I do mention in the post that the color of the barrels is wrong, but I forgot to mention that the carriages should be green. I didn't find all that out until after I painted them. I guess I was just in too much of a rush to get them painted that in my excitement I skipped the important step of finding out what they're supposed to look like. Anyway, I haven't gotten around to re-painting the guns yet. When I do I guess I'll post some corrected pictures. |

There's a new series starting this week on my blog! It will be a weekly feature on a Warhammer 40K Campaign my gaming group ran a while ago. It takes place in a city, so the Cities of Death rules were used for most battles. This week's post explains the rules of the campaign. Next Monday will be the background story for the war, then weekly updates on how the campaign went. So check back every monday to see how the battle for Attraignnor 4 unfolds! link |

"I guess I was just in too much of a rush to get them painted that in my excitement I skipped the important step of finding out what they're supposed to look like." I do that a lot myself. I even do worse when assembling plastics kits. Ouch! |

The post on my blog today is my tutorial on painting 10mm cavalry horses. The second part of the tutorial on how I painted the riders will probably come next week. This was my first attempt at painting 10mm scale horses, so let me know what you think. I've already discovered a couple mistakes with them. For instance, I didn't know what that bundle at the front of the saddle was. But after painting them, I discovered that normally the overcoat would be kept there, which should be sky blue. But if you notice any other discrepencies, please comment on them so I don't mislead other people into painting things wrong. |

The second part of my painting tutorial on 10mm Union cavalry is up today! So go check it out and let me know what you think. link |

Today on my blog I've got pictures up of some painted 10mm GHQ dismounted cavalry. On Friday I'll have some pictures up of my painted 10mm General Custer! link |

Today's post on my blog is about me making and trying to paint some rocks for scenery purposes. If anyone has any advice or suggestions on painting rocks, please leave a comment! I could really use them. My rocks are pretty basic. link |

At long last, today's blog post contains pictures of my very first painted 10mm confederates, the 1st Texas Infantry Regiment, as well as a painting tutorial explaining how I painted them. Hopefully this will be helpful to other people looking to start painting small scale confederate miniatures. link |

New post today with pictures of my second finished unit of American Civil War Confederate Infantry. Let me know what you think. link |

very nice. which colors did you use? |
| Bottom Dollar | 08 May 2009 5:52 p.m. PST |
Those look good. Now I know what I haven't been doing with GW paint. Impressive work. |
| Bottom Dollar | 08 May 2009 6:10 p.m. PST |
BTW, what are the dimensions of those stands ? |
| Albino Squirrel | 26 May 2009 12:42 p.m. PST |
Sorry about the delayed responses. I hadn't checked this thread in a while. General Lee, I did a painting tutorial on my blog that you can read here: link The only difference is that with the second unit I used mostly brown ink instead of mostly black ink. Bottom Dollar, the stands are 3/4" square, which is around 20mm square. They are thin steel bases that I got from warweb.com. |

Yesterday was the 6 month anniversary of the first post I did for my miniature gaming blog. So to mark the occasion, I posted a little retrospective of what I've posted on the blog over its first 6 months. If you've never had a look at my blog, or have only seen some of the recent posts, have a look and see if there's anything that interests you. And if you have any suggestions for the kinds of things I should post going forward, don't hesitate to leave a comment! Thanks. link |

Mr. Squirrel, Any post you make having to do with painting 10mm ACW figs with GW paint will interest me. I've got 15 mm's ACW and am using primarily GW paint, but if I ever stray a bit from 15mm it will be to 10mm. I enjoyed reading your introduction to historical wargaming in three parts. Jim |
| Albino Squirrel | 03 Jun 2009 8:26 a.m. PST |
Thank you, Bottom Dollar. I'm sure there will be plenty more posts about painting 10mm ACW miniatures with GW paint. That's the only paint I have, and I have plenty more 10mm ACW figures to paint. Do you have any suggestions for other step by step tutorials you'd like to see? I've already done them for Confederate infantry and Union cavalry. I guess artillery is all that is left. |
| Bottom Dollar | 04 Jun 2009 7:51 p.m. PST |
Mr. Squirrel, The thing that was really helpful about your last ACW post was that you identified the actual GW colors you were using. Snakebite Leather and Desert Yellow, I immediatley knew what you were talking about. I say the more of your thought process you can write into the blog the more helpful. I have to say your Rebs are impressive. Not that I know, but they look authentic. I also like the fact that even though they are all the same pose, they have variety and yet are uniform somehow. Rebs are tough that way. I tried inking last night--again. I diluted the ink 1:1 with water. It still didn't work. What's your recommended proportion? Jim |
| Albino Squirrel | 08 Jun 2009 9:03 a.m. PST |
I've got another blog post up today with more 10mm Confederate Infantry. This time the 5th Texas. There are in a marching pose, rather than the advancing pose of the previous units. link Bottom Dollar, I don't have a specific proportion of ink and water I use. But I'd guess it's probably at least 4 or 5 parts water to one part ink. Then the tiniest bit of dish soap mixed in to make it flow better into the crevasses. |
| Bottom Dollar | 08 Jun 2009 5:37 p.m. PST |
Thanks for the information, Squirrel. Add more water ! I ran out of empty vials, so I should pick some up with some of your Ink recs. I've got GW Chestnut Ink, which seems like it might work well if I dilute it enough. the 5th Texas looks good ! Look forward to the 3rd Arkansas. I made a post to your blog. I've picked up the paint brushes recently and I'm trying to come to grips with my Rebs. |

Today on my blog, I've posted the first half of a battle report I wrote up for a recent game. The rules were Field of Battle, using my small (but growing) collection of 10mm American Civil War miniatures. I also included many comments throughout on the rules and how they play, so if you're thinking about getting the Field of Battle rules, it might help you get an idea for what they're like. link I plan on posting part 2 of the battle report next monday, so check back for that. |
