The Man Who Never Missed; 97th Step; Albino Knife

I think he does a great job of setting up a human-only galaxy complete with a pervasive empire and the central heroes/anti-heroes destined to give said empire a whippin when needed.

Anybody else a fan?

PS – One of my favorite bits is whenever I find one of his books I haven't read just so I can read how "Death came for X through the hills/streams/marmalade stand :)

Oh yeah. These would be great inspiration for a SF RPG, perhaps a minis game using something like 5150 or Infinity but probably nothing larger…

Most memorable for me was the scene in which the prospective "bouncers" for his bar are tested; having to remove the bolted down table from the floor… innovative approaches giving new meaning to think outside the square!!!

Got the first 2 books but have not had a chance to read them yet. Think I'll bump them up the list to read soon though.

This was one of the few series of books that I enjoyed from the first through the last (7th?). After the first 3 I figured they would suck, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Yep, I have the whole series, too. "The Man Who Never Missed" is definitely the best of the bunch, but I, too, was pleasantly surprised by how well written the entire series was.

The "Death came for X" first sentences are always great.

And absolutely love the idea of the spetsdods.

One of the first series I ever had to go out and buy after reading the first book. Black Company by Glen Cook was another. Really great series, really good flow.

Black Company? haven't read that one.. wonder if it's still in print. Synopsis?

"Black Company? haven't read that one.. wonder if it's still in print. Synopsis?"

A (fantasy) mercenary army gets caught up in a high voltage war for world dominance.

Any more than that would head into spoiler territory quickly. Loved the first three, haven't really dug into the follow-ups.

Best news is that the Black Company books are getting released as softcover compilations!

You don't really need to read Silver Spike, but they're all good.

The Man Who Never Missed
Matadora
The Machiavelli Interface
The 97th Step
The Albino Knife
Black Steel
Brother Death
The Omega Cage
The Musashi Flex

All these take place in the same book universe.

All Bleeped texting Fantastic IMHO. They're part of my "never-get-rid-of" books.
