I have always been a fan of Glover's Marblehead regiment. So much that I even got the ball rolling on Age of Reason 100 club by first requesting a range for them. Great figures, by the way. A few years ago, I had a megalomaniacal game of Trenton, in which they played a part. I needed a flag for them, and put in a TMP thread request for indormation. As I recall, there has also been another since. well, you never know what will turn up
I bought the American Heritage Junior Library book on Lexington, concord and Bunker Hill. From here in the TMP Marketplace, by the way. I just sat down to read it last night. On page 134-135, there is a 2 page spread of a color painting by John O J Frost, depicting the fishermen of Col Glover's regiment. A few caveats here. To call the painting a "primitive" is being kind. Grandma Moses looks like Rembrandt compared to this. It was also done "a century and a half" (!) after the events. Anyhooo
The men are in blue. They look more like Samurai or Janissaries than Continentals. Naetheless. They have a flag! A white banner with a green pine tree device, as was suggested on TMP many moons ago, and as I did mine. I Googled "John O J Frost", by the way, to see if I could provide a link. I found three catalog pages for Frost paintings, and dozens on OJ Simpson. No luck. |

You can also do a TMP search on "Glover", and come up with gems like this: TMP link |

I didn't keep my word about painting SS. But then, I had not yet discovered SS-Kavallerie-Division "Anne Frank's Little Pony" at the time. For some reason, couldn't spell "Bagaduce" either, despite having every book written on the Expedition staring at me from above the monitor--then and now. Allen |

Nice find. I recall that someone, it may have been you John, suggested to me that the pine tree motif was common in Massachusetts regiments. link |

Allen. How is the hot sauce made in Maine? link |

I think I may have mentioned Captain Mowatt's sauces some while back. It's such a tasteful choice of a brand name--like starting a Sir Arthur Harris air parcel service in Germany. But what do you expect of an outfit named the "W.O. Hesperus Co."? Never had a chance to try them. The only one I think I'd be interested in is the Shipyard Beer--B-Que. Shipyard makes some good brews. Allen |

Note that there are multiple Pine Tree flags in the Frost painting; so company flags? Mind you, if that's Glover riding out front, he appears to be mounted on a bull instead of a horse

That's something the Perrys should consider. Or Eureka and Historifigs, since they both have Glover's regiment
As for company flags
This WAS painted in 1926 by an eccentric retired gentleman. Hmmmm. That's pretty reliable, considering some "sources" we have had pushed lately on TMP. |
