Hello ! I'm looking for a ruleset for playing Napoleonic battles with my 1/72 figurines. I found two that might be suitable : Shako 2 and General de Brigade 2nd Edition
But I can't decide between them. Could you give me some advice ? What are the main differences maybe ? In my club, we're not specialists of this period, but we like to play with "custom armies"
I understood that there are points systems in both games, but do they require extensive knowlegde of the organisation of the armies of that time ? One good point for General de Brigade, is that there are rulesets for other periods with the same base system (ACW,
). Thanks for the answers ! |

Happy to see another 1/72nd guy on the board. Unfortunetly, I just bought GDB and havent even read it all yet, though it does look good to me. Have not tried the other one. No you dont have to be a specialist to play with your friends. But like any period, the more you learn, the more sense it makes. |

I think you'll have fun with either. |

Shako 2 is a game with smaller units – 3 stands per battalion in most cases. The game presumes that you have a corps or so per side and the combat is fairly simple. GdB has larger battalions, 36 figures or so per unit, more complex combat resolution and presumes a brigade or a division per side. It is less abstract. |

Take a look at La Grande Guerre by Sam Mustafa Files are at the Grande Armee Yahoo Group here: link Another interesting free set is 2x2 Napoleonics rodvik.com/~rodvik/2by2 Both have point systems. And both have interesting features. Some folks have discussed mixing the two with some success. |

Welcome to another 1/72 gamer. We are really more numerous than the grumpy ones would let on. There is great variety compared to when I started, when you had less than a dozen different sets to choose from, now there are hundreds and with the internet and your FLGS you can get any of them. The price is great, every now and then I think about going to metal and then I look at the price and think how many more things I can do with the $. USD The colors and drama of the period are fun, I've been hooked since 19xx. I have not used either rule set before although I have thought about both. I would probably lean toward Shako, because although I started out "old school" with the C.S. Grant rules, I am finding that I like the look of big battalions but the speed of play for small ones. I recently went to Junior Genral web site and merged the rules from 2-3 of the scenarios listed and got an easy to play set of rules. They were free and I am able to play them with my children without pulling my hair out. |
