Greenville, SC has 3, but only 2 carry non-RPG minis.

Borderlands has GW/WM/FoW and some western stuff, and a bunch of playing tables. Stan, the owner, is a good guy, and will let you use his tables for stuff he doesn't carry as long as there isn't a tourney going on.

The Command Post has AT-43, Wings of War, Resistant Rooster, MechWarrior, and I think he'll be getting microarmor, if he doesn't have it already. Kevin is also good about letting folks use his tables for other than what he carries. Oh, and on Saturday he's open til midnight.

I think the guys try not to overlap each other, and, I think, get on fairly well with one another, which is good, as you don't feel like you're "cheating" when you go from one to the other.

In rockford Il we have royal Hobby 10 min from my house. No game tables but friendly and have a wide variety of gaming supplies and product.

There is always Last Square in Madison WI They have it all I stop in when ever I have to go visit the Va. about an hour and a half from me.

We have two within 20 minutes.

The Dragons Table in downtown Champaign, IL. Though they just lost their lease and are supposed to be out by Jan 1. Looking for someplace to move to.

Armored Gopher Games, a few blocks away, closer to campus.

richarDISNEY21 Nov 2008 8:22 a.m. PST

5 min away.

Castle Comics and Games in Cameron Park, CA. thumbs up

There was another good one in Sacramento (30 min), but the staff got stuffy, incompetent and DEFINITELY lost the "F", so I don't go there anymore unless I get invited to a game by some pals running there. frown

In my area, we used to have two.

Battlefield HQ opened around 2004, had plenty of gaming space (I helped set up the tables), a pretty varied selection of sci fi, fantasy, and to a lesser extent historicals. The owner, Pat, really knew how to run games and keep things friendly and engaging. Any and all miniature games were welcome, even if Pat did not support them (which often changed if the games were well received). It was a great environment for gaming.

Another shop in the next town (about twenty minuntes from the first) most certainly was missing the "F" in friendly. It was a sickly environment that drew a very difficult teenage crowd and some weird, older power-gamer types with very poor social skills. A horrible place to game, but it had a very broad selection of miniatures.

Sadly, there was not enough of a market here to support both shops and, alas, they both closed their doors.

Several in the Milwaukee area, but the best one is Adventures in Gaming. Knowledgeable staff, and will order anything you want. Several custom tables in basement, and the regulars are friendly.

Yep, GHG in Austin 60 mins down the road. It is check on all four points. My life would be much poorer without it.

Gunfreak21 Nov 2008 11:05 a.m. PST

I have sevral LGC

but I don't know if they are friendly, they are realy what I would call nerd shops, they sell lots of lord of the rings stuff, like swords and armor, aswell as magic cards and stuff.
the do have warhammer and Flames of war.
but I don't know if they are friendly.
I'll find out. I'm going to ask if I can hang up a note looking for historical gamers, if they let me hang it ut, then they are friendly

Coryofmissoula isn't quite telling the truth – the next closest would be in Great Falls, Montana, or Kalispell! – which are only 180 miles away (roughly)!

YES – Action Cards and Comics – some of the nicest people to run a game store – both military – one active, the other retired. Great guys both and they carry lots of GW stuff, some other stuff like Axis & Allies, some 1/144 stuff, a few historical figs, and they will try to get you what you want. They also have set up all the time at least 3 4' x 8' tables for miniature gaming plus a dozen more tables for card gaming and a LAN set up for people to come in and game in a LAN party.

Kalispell has Heroic Realms – which is mainly a GW store with some other stuff, models, RPGs and the like – with several in-store game tables – great guys there too!

Drop by if you are in the neighborhood!

Sacramento, CA

Viking Hobbies: open 25+ years, no game space, very cramped small store, good boardgame, plastic model & mini selection, very little CCGs, no GW, big on the Friendly & service, knows your likes & let you know when something similar comes in, 20 min away

Great Escape Games: open 10+ years, biggest game space I've seen in any store, local source for GW, PP, FoW, small selection of board games & other minis, average service but I usually only shop here if Viking doesn't have it, 15 min away

Riverside Hobbies: no game space, more of a modelling store with aisles & aisles of plastic kits, no longer carries minis, looses the F in FLGS, only shop for supplies & tools here since it's 5 min away

We have a couple loval gaming stores in our town but they definitley cater to the younger crowd. Us old timers have gone to the FLGB (Friendly Local Gaming Basement) model of which we have about 4.

TimHerr21 Nov 2008 11:33 a.m. PST

Yes – Comic Book World, Florence KY

Meets all the suggested criteria.

SultanSevy21 Nov 2008 3:22 p.m. PST

Yes, we've got 3 within the central PA area that have gaming space:

Adventurer's Guild (Harrisburg) sells lots of wargaming stuff and some board games.

That Game Place (Lemoyne) sells mostly board/card games and some clickies.

Comic Store West (York) sells everything.

and Pastimes on the Square (Palmyra) sells wargame stuff and board/card games, but doesn't have gaming space.

MDIvancic21 Nov 2008 4:06 p.m. PST

Yes. I hang out at the same messy FLGS as Nazrat! Fun place even if I don't get to go often these days.

BTW I'm not sure the "F" always stand for "Friendly".

Daffy Doug21 Nov 2008 4:23 p.m. PST

"Flacid?"

TodCreasey21 Nov 2008 6:52 p.m. PST

We have two on Ottawa – the Hobby Centre and Fandom II. They have also managed to stock different items than each other so hopefully we can continue to support them both.

DesertScrb21 Nov 2008 8:27 p.m. PST

Several friendly local game stores here in San Antonio, four of which I think have tables for gaming: Dragon's Lair, Central Command, Hobbies & Heroes, and Alien Worlds.

nazrat22 Nov 2008 9:49 a.m. PST

"Funky" as in smell?

SgtPain23 Nov 2008 3:08 p.m. PST

Two within 3 miles of where I live. RIW in Livonia MI and Pandemonium in Redford MI. Both are Friendly and helpful with in store gaming. So I guess I'm one of the lucky gamers.

Daffy Doug23 Nov 2008 3:30 p.m. PST

Our "friendly" gaming emporium is owned by an old gaming friend. He provides the copious amount of floor space needed for our air wargaming. However, recently, we have begun to have a return of some (I had hoped moribund) gaming angst, engendered by the inescapable indredient of old friends getting on each other's nerves, fueled by the past. How it will all fall out, I can't possibly say….

WereSandwich24 Nov 2008 1:34 p.m. PST

My nearest proper (ie, non-GW) gaming store is Spirit Games in Burton. Well, tell a lie, the closest is Bishop Games in Coventry, but the incomprehensible Coventry road system makes that whole place Terra Incognita for me. VERY friendly and helpful staff, great range of products. Not the most organsied store in the world, but the staff know where everytihng is, so it doesn't matter. Excellent web shop as well. Pity I only manage to visit 3 or 4 times a year.
