I am looking for a good book that covers the 2nd Manassas/2nd Bull Run campaign in 1862. Hopefully it would include OOBs and an account of Brawner's Farm as well as Bull Run. Any suggestions? |

That's Easy, Fritz. Try: Return to Bull Run by John Hennessey. It is really superb. |

Second for Hennessey. It's the best work on that battle. |

Any suggestions for 1st Manassas then? I just ordered this Hennessey title for 2nd, but he does not show one listed for the 1st

Hennessey as well. I remember reading it the first time many years ago and thinking, "This sounds just like a game of Johnny Reb." :) |

For 1st Manassas, its hard to beat: The First Battle of Manassas: An End to Innocence by John Hennessey. First Manassas Battlefield Map Study by Ed Bearss Both are in The Virginia Civil War Battles and Leaders Series. I picked mine up at the battlefield bookstore a few years ago. Don't know if they're still available, but its worth the effort to find them. Brent |

Wait until 2009! Bradley Gottfried is working on a wargamer's dream book: The Maps of Bull Run. Similar to his very popular The Maps of Gettysburg in style, it will have hundreds of maps detailing the movements as the two battles progressed. I did a book signing in Gettysburg with Brad a while ago, and saw the preview of this new book. It is a must have for any gamer wishing to do either Manassas fight. Brad drew the maps for my 2009 book on the Louisiana Tigers. Over time, he will do more battles in this manner. |

Ah, the Hennessey book on 1st Manassas didnt show because I was looking under his author name with a middle initial, dumb system over there, or dumb user over here, take your pick! Thanks Scott. I will definately add Gottfried's book to my list. I am looking to do a scenario book covering both Manassas fights, if I can find any time in 2009 to get it done, thought I would start getting some research done over my time off over the holidays
I am heading up to Gettysburg this Saturday for a Staff Ride, I will check the book shop there for the Gettysburg map book, sounds interesting, although with your two books on Gburg scenarios, Imay already be set ;-) Andy |

I loved Hennessey's "Return to Bull Run", but have not read his book on 1st Manassas. A book I did enjoy on that battle is William C. Davis' "Battle at Bull Run". link |
