Hi Guys My Father has recently taken an interest in the history of the American Civil War. Looking for recommendations for decent books. Help would be appreciated. |

For a general read of the Civil War, I would recommend Bruce Catton's Trilogy. Very enjoyable and easy reading with a good overview of the entire conflict. Of course there are others to recommend also. |

Bookstores also have many discounted books on clearance. Check them out. Some nice general books there. Everyone likes a good map book. |

There are some very nice "coffee table" type books out that provide a good starting read with lots of illustrations and maps – Catton, as astutely noted, is a great read, and Shelby Foote has several excellent popular histories on the war, of which the 3 volume set "The Civil War – A Narrative" is maybe the best |
