Hi Guys -

I was on Hannants web site looking for those promised 1/144 MiG-19s but they still show as a future issue -

Anyone seen any anywhere?????

Thanks,

Kimball

Sorry for the Cross-post to WWII….

Top Gun Ace05 Nov 2008 11:03 a.m. PST

Only on eBay once.

Inquired about them, and was told they weren't very good quality. Can't recall the manufacturer.

Good luck in your quest.

From a posting on the 1/144th Yahoo Group, it at least looks like Mig-15's will be along sometime in the next year, so maybe they will get around to them eventually.

I'd like to see the Mig-15, Mig-17, and Mig-19 done in natural metal, and camo., with decals left off to permit them to be customized for the appropriate country.

Pre-painted 1/144 MiG-15s are on the way from F-toys:

Yep, TG Ace that would be nice. Don't understand why the manufacturers don't pick up on it.

I found the 1/144 MiG-15s and 17s from ATTACK Hobby Kits at Squadron. Also found F-86s by Trumpeter there. Been picking them up a few at a time.

Dom had told me that he saw ATTACK was going to come out with the MiG-19 on Hannant's site. I check occasionally but it just shows it as a future issue.

Thanks for the info Zippy on the "Early Jet Collection" by F-toys. MiG-15s look pretty good.

Let me know if ya'll hear/see any MiG-19s.

Attack also has the Mig-21 SMT out and so far I've been able to find one. If you are really wanting Mig-19's I'm thinking about scratch building one and cast from there. I've got my scale plans done just need to get off my but and start cutting out the Styrene skeleton.

Let us know how you are doing. Take pictures…

Wulf -

Did ya ever get that MiG-19 scratchbuilt?

I'm still looking for the kits.

Nope,
I started but then heard Attack hobbies is supposed to be releasing it sometime this year. Doesn't show anything on the site, but they just released a whack load of Mig-21 variants that didn't show up on the site either. I've just been SO busy painting up Korean stuff I decided to hold off. I'll wait until April and if I haven't heard anything, I'll go back to scratching again. I'll put up a picture of the skeleton I've done sometime soon.

as for the Mig-15's and -17 in Natural metal:

Yep, looking good. I just finished painting a few myself. In the process of decaling and getting ready for battle. The 1/144 Attack MiG-15s and -17s have really gotten expensive at Squadron $16 USD or more. So, I'll just hold back until they go on sale again. I sent an email to Attack asking when they were going to produce the 19s, no answer back as of yet.

Still like to have 5 or 6 1/144 MiG-19s though.

How can you go past a collection of F/A 18 Hornets marketed as 'Navy & Marines Freak'?

werwulf01 May 2009 9:17 a.m. PST

Kimball, I hear ya, on the Mig-19's. Give me a bit and I'll see what I can do, though no promise and I have a FULL workbench right now and less than LITTLE time.

Doug, aren't all Navy and Marines FREAKS! :)

Yo Wulf -

Here's some 1/144 ATTACK MiG-15s and -17s I just finished. They are ready to take on some F-86s & F-4s.

Scroll down a bit to look at the album. You don't have to sign in or anything.

Kimball, nice models…but my F-86s and Panthers are still in their boxes (along with the Thuds and the Phantoms). Kevin

Looking GOOD! I like the Light Blue/Dark Blue Mig-17. Did you get that from this:
picture

Like the NKAF in camo as well. I though about doing that as well, but I just LOVE the Natural Metal finish SO MUCH!

The Mig-21, are they the Minicraft/ Academy/Revel Mig-21PF's? Not a big fan of that kit. Have you tried the J-Wings Mig-21 PF or PFM's? They can be found on ebay but, again, at an outrageous price sometimes. Just an FYI, Attack does Mig-21, but if you are doing mainly Vietnam only the MF will be O.K. and only for VERY late stuff, '72 being the earliest.
Also, Attack has put up Mig-19 listings on their site, but it's "Coming Soon".
Trumpeter is also, another, source for Mig-21's though they are a Mig-21 F-13. The Kit is put out as " Mig-21/PLA air Force F-7II". It looks the part but the wings and ailerons are thick. The VPAF used the Mig-21 F-13 up until about 1968, though some evidence points to them being used until 1972.

Keep up the Great work! I'm busy re-scribing panel lines on the LS/Arii F-4E to make it look a little more busy. Got some F-toy F-4J's and waiting on a couple more as well as some decals to do them up the "Fighting Falcons" VF-96's. Also got some F-4D coming from J-Wings so I'm on my way with the Vietnam stuff. Also busy with B-29's and more Mig-15's, ALWAYS more Mig-15's! :) I'll post pics as I get stuff done!

Kevin -

Thanks for the kind words. Are your Panthers, F-86s, Thuds & Phantoms 1/144? If so, are they metal or plastic & where did you get them? Haven't seen any Panthers in 1/144.

Com'mon, take a break from WWII. You have to start working on your JETS for a while…. :-)

Werwulf -

You got it. That's the picture. I like that website. Gives a lot of good ideas. Two of the MiG-21s are Minicraft – kinda rough, the other is by HOBBY and is a little better. I tried to weather the panels on a couple of them and the spray on aluminum didn't work as well as I wanted. So, part of that is me and not the kit. :-)

I haven't ordered the J-wings though I have seen them on ebay. Looked seriously at the Thuds for a while but they were always so high that I passed. Didn't know about the ATTACK or Trumpeter 21s. Will have to check them out.
Thanks for the info.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

miscmini Fezian09 May 2009 6:20 p.m. PST

Kimball, yep, all 1/144. The Panters and P-80s are Ozmod kits. link Kevin

werwulf10 May 2009 5:43 p.m. PST

I hear you on the Thuds, though they are F-105G's so you wouldn't need more that maybe 2 as they were only used in the Wild Weasel/SAM Suppression role. I picked up one and they are SWEET! Also picked up some of the old Cafe Reo Area 88 F-105D's. Got them for about $4 USD a piece. They are O.K., not as good as the later J-wing F-105G, but with a new paint job an MER and Mk.82's they look great!
Just a warning to to you and Kevin, the ozmod Panthers are a BEAR of a kit. All Ozmod kits are made of this VERY brittle plastic. I was cutting the fuselage off the sprue and cracked it in half! It's a nice kit and the only panther 1/144 but be very careful when building. I bought a couple of their Mig-15's, still have one left so if anyone is looking for a kit PM me and we can make arrangements.
