Greetings,

Have not done a large amount of 28mm Modern gaming previously, but am looking at doing Police, FBI & SWAT actions in this scale (already have a ton of figures).

Curious about vehicles. What die-cast scale do people prefer with their 28's? Would like to find everything from squad cars to command vehicles, and especially SWAT armored vehicles, including trucks and possibly an M113. Any suggestions appreciated…..

Actually, it appears 1/43rd is the recommended scale as far as availability is concerned, so guess I will go in that direction, barring other suggestions….

Cold Warrior, in terms of availability, yes, it looks like the only choice to use are 1/43 scale vehicles. Now, there are some 1/60 scale vehicles that are the correct size for 28mm figures, and Jada Toys is the only manufacturer that produces a police vehicle, although it's in the form of a Chevy Corvette Stingray:

If anything, the civilian vehicles could be converted into police cars. Good luck on your project, Cold Warrior.

I found a set of emergency vehicles at Toy's R Us a couple of years ago that had a SWAT van. For a SWAT armored vehicle I use on of the older (and smaller) GW Rhinos.

Also, at Target and Walmart they make an ambulance (I can't remember the name) that is mostly to scale. I grabbed a few and converted them to armored bank cars for a post-apoc game, but they could pass for SWAT vehicles

A model of the Cadillac Gage Commando armoured car could be used for several American police forces. The LAPD had a dark blue one, with a ram on the front for crashing through the walls of crack houses.

There are plenty of 1/50 scale vehicles to be used.
It also helps to knwo which vehicles specifically you are looking for. APC, squad cars, paddywagons, tactical trucks and so on. :-)

The Verlinden "V100 PATROL CAR" in 1/48 works fine with a SWAT team. I got a picture on this site (miniatures from foundry´s street violence):

And here's a photo of the two 1/43 armoured cars in my model police car collection.

picture

The first is a Shorland Armoured car from the Dutch Rijkspolitie, and the other is the LAPD Cadillac Gage Commando armoured car.

Both are resin models. The model Shorland kit was produced by a company called Transports of Delight. I can't recall who made the V100.

Unfortunately, since I made the LAPD model some years ago, the ram at the front has broken off.

If you travel on Brittany Ferries to France, you can buy a nice set of 1/43 scale police cars, trucks etc by Welly for a few quid (I bought one for my son in the summer)in the duty free shop.
