I am thinking about getting some and gluing them to a plastic or wooden base for use on a larger felt mat.

Has anyone tried gluing these to a base?

I did mine on thin clear plastic. Still read details etc.

Did the same as Clif. Especially good for those "wiggly" destroyers grin

On the bottom they mean.

What glue did you use?

Did you get the bases from Litko?

I have messed around with creating an ocean cardstock base (scanned in a portion of the play mat surface) and tweaked it to fit certain items.

First up, the planes. Eyes can't tell what the heck they are (can't read underside writing). My base will have a small area with text that tells me the aircraft, and a small flag just for color.

Have yet to actually glue planes to these though, was wondering what sort of glue to use between plastic aircraft stands and cardstock.

If that works, then perhaps I'll go next to the smaller ships and possibly work up from there.

I used white glue, PVA, onto clear bases. Doesn't hold them forever but more than firm enough for reasonable handling. If you ever need to remove them from the base, either flex the base, quite a lot, or soak in water.

The plastic came from cutting up clear plastic report binder covers. These are very cheap and only cost a cent or 2 per ship or plane stand. I used a paper gulliotine for the first mass run cutting dozens of strips to standard widths. After that just a sharp knife and a steel edge for the odd few extra that I needed.

I was impatient so didn't bother to wash the plastic with soap and water. This may help adhesion but haven't had any problems so far.

If you wish to get fancy you can paint a wake on the base, maybe add a paper label with the name of the ship, with a flag for color, and again glue with the white glue.

The planes are an issue especially for new players, you cannot read the bottoms.

Good ideas, I will play around to see what I can come up with. The ships really would not need a base except for the bent ones, and possibly to help with i.d. in bigger games.

I used clear sheets from Evergreen (I think). Glued the ships down with the smallest bit of superglue. My table is scaled up for the game (6 inch offset-squares)and already sea-blue. I may paint wakes on the plastic bases later on; having too much fun playing the game right now.

Hi All

Re Planes basing.

If in UK ot OK for overseas postage Magister Militum does a great set of aircraft bases that handle 1:1250 up to 1:600 aircraft.
