Subject: Japanese Daihatsu Landing craft
Manufacturer: Armaments In Miniature armamentsinminiature.com
Scale: 1/100
Medium: Resin
Price (on line): $18 USD link

This is another fine, resin, multi-part kit from Armaments in Miniature (AIM). As I recall there were about 15 pieces which included the hull, a two-part ramp, pilot house, pilot, steering wheel, tiller(?), ventilators, and cleats. The pieces went together well and required minimal trimming. Although the parts required minimal cleaning the smaller ones, cleats in particular, required patience because they are so small and delicate. AIM also carries decals for the kits. I finished my large Daihatsu Landing Craft with Vallejo Model Colors Military Green (I painted the interior with "wood" colors and scimped on the green paint to give it a worn appearance). I did not include the pilot figure in the pictures below as I need to find some uniform references before I paint it.

Recommendation: Nice little kit, I recommend it for all experience levels with the caveat that beginners or novices may want to leave off the cleats and just fill-in the holes.

Post assembly:
Decals: Wargames (AIM has these available)
Paint: Vallejo Model Colors
Primer: Rust-Oleum Gray Automotive Primer
Matte Finish: Krylon Crystal Clear Matte

Thankyou for your report and photographs.

I'm always interested in anything Japanese, especially naval.

Best regards,

Which paint numbers?

I have some nice landing craft and barges from Games Models in the US. US$4.00, US$6.00 and US$10.00 for the 3 different models. Haven't been able to pin down what colours the original Japanese ones were.

I'll use these in my up-coming diorama of Corregidor.

Cheers,

Pro…

Nice. Dos the Model represent the W shape of the hull, or has it just been squared off?

miscmini Fezian28 Oct 2008 2:01 a.m. PST

I guess you could call it a "waterline" kit. The bottom is flat.

Nice work. I have these models sitting on my painting table (2 large and 4 small). I believe the color should be gray instead of green according to my sources, but I don't think anybody is going to know the difference. You painting technique and attention to details (decals, etc) is outstanding.
