Here's a few pics of an island I made for a friend who was into that pirate game from Wizkids – I made six of them, but only got pics of the one.

I think this was… maybe two years ago? I'm still quite pleased with it – the only thing "wrong" with it is the coat of old Polly-S "gloss finish" that I tried to paint the water with – it was *too* old, and got bubbly and strange looking when it dried. It's still glossy, thick and wavy, but it's rough instead of smooth.

So if you've got a 20-year old bottle of Polly-S gloss sitting in your painting box, it might be time to chuck it in the trash.

Anyways, let me know what ya'll think – I'm trying to get more pictures of my work taken for a gallery on my (soon to be a reality!) "Forge of Ice" website.

Hopefully I can get some pictures of the other islands the next time I get over to my friends' house.

Very nice. I like the way the colors give the impression of varied depths of water.

Alex,

Absolutely beautiful. What paints did you use for the various water depths?

If I recall correctly, I only used one ink to paint it with – GW's "Sky Blue". The first layer was incredibly thinned down, barely a drop of ink in a bowl of water, then I let it dry overnight. The next layer wasn't quite so watered down, the next was even less watered down, and so on. I intentionally left the layers a bit blotchy, to make the "water" look more natural.

I may have added a drop of turquiose paint to the mix at some point.

It was more time consuming than difficult. If anyone wants any, I'd be happy to do some on commission, just PM me.

Looks very realistic, with multiple depth levels.

Would be a great place to go scuba diving.

Awesome.

If I didn't have other ideas I need to steal first, I'd steal this one right away.

Great island. I have some I made by painting the plastic forms that come in toy packaging. I will post some pictures when I figure out how to do that here.
