Hi guys,
The Chronicles of Kermit the Hermit (A.K.A. The Dirty Fakir) continue with the conclusion of The Battle of the Red Gate.
Lots of pics of Perry minis as usual, but some in big format for the close up look.

Hope You like,

James

Fantastic! From the miniatures, to the table and terrain, and the scenario design. Just excellent.

I've always liked big stands for the mini-diarama effect, but never imagined as big as 60mm x 90mm for cavalry. Going to have to try that myself.

Very nice piccies and toys you've done there. Glad you're having a blast. That's the whole point, after all….

Absolutely beautiful. Also, thank you for the idea regarding interchangable flags. It worked well.

Stunning and inspirational!! Your painting continues to be an excellent source of ideas for my rather amateur work.

I am painting Perry Crusades (as Normans) at the moment, one question if you don't mind.

The Knights stirrup is a leather cord to the main vertical metal piece around the foot. Is there an additional metal piece that runs horizontally around the back of the heel?

It appears so from the models and some of the images from the Perry site however the evidence is inconclusive.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben,

I think that this is a spurr. It is not that well defined, but I guess that is what it is.

James.

P.S. Thanks for the encouraging words. The blog has managed 4000 hits this month from 61 countries, including the Dutch Antilles and Bolivia; I wonder if either has a war games club.

Awesome, glad you have discovered what a great period the Crusades is. Your setup is magnificent. I look forward to your next game. You gonna paint any Armenians at all? Perrys have them.

Mgh,

Yes. I have a unit of heavy / medium cavalry three units of spearmen and two units of archers [102 figs]. The spearmen were not that inspired [the single pose with different heads] so I have already hacked them up and converted many of the arm positions. They are on the painting list after arab infantry [168 half already painted], arab heavy cavalry [54], bedouin [24], Hospitillars [12], various command stands [20ish], and English sailors [20], but before the last of the Turks [56] and pilgrims [100]. Having already painted over 250 infantry and 250 cavalry that seems quite soon; especially as most of what is left is quite simple to do. I'll be all done by March, for Triples 09.

Wow, James, you are simply a painting machine!
