I really hate the skinny trunks on my K&M bottlebrush trees and was looking for something similar to these resin tree trunks from Snapdragon Studios, so I could tap a hole in the middle and drop the trees into the trunks:

Snapdragon has a ridiculously high postage rate to N.America so I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar type item I could use in it's place? The trunks on the GW/Citadel trees are something similar to what I'm after.

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

I was going to suggest HLBS Co. in Birmingham, UK, they have very finely cast resing tree stumps which I have used in the past, you can see examples om my Flash Gordon terrain board – see;

dampfpanzerwagon.blogspot.com

However in Canada the postage might be a bit too high. I would therefore suggest the following (a technique I have used in the past).

Take four, 4 inch strips of florist wire attache the first 2 inches to the trunk of the tree, I supergule and then bind with string, cotton or even more wire. Spred out the bottom four inches and mount on to a base by spreading then in a cross patern and glueing in place, (you can use tape). When you are happy with the firmnest of the tree mix up some quick setting two part epoxy (the sort that plummers use to fix leaks – you will have about 5 minutes before the putty goes solid, so you may want to mix up three small pieces rather than one large amount).

As you spread the epoxy on the trunk, use a modelling tool to 'comb' the putty down the trunk, leaving very marked bark grain. As the putty is combed down allow the remaining putty to form roots, covering the wire.

When set – and with plumbers putty this will be less than 10 minutes, paint brown, grey and wash with a water/ink mix, paunt the base and flock.

The process is very quick and even easier than writting about it.

See, the trees in the background of these Flintloque miniatures for examples.

Thanks Tony. I should try that.

I looked on the HLBS page but couldn't see the tree trunks you were referring to.
