It's full title is 'Mr. Lincoln's Forts: A Guide to the Civil War Defenses of Washington', and it was authored by Benjamin Franklin Cooling and Walton H. Owen. It chronicles the fortifications that were erected around the Capitol during the Civil War, and I'm wondering if anyone here has it in their collection or has read it.

Does it touch on every fort and battery that defended Washington, or just the major installations? I'm curious to see if a particular defense christened "Fort Worth" is discussed in the book.

Thank you.

Since it came out 20 years ago, there has been plenty of time to read it. I have the book.

It covers all the Washington-area installations (68 forts and 93 armed batteries). Not only is Ft. Worth covered on pp.70-73, but it also includes an engineer diagram, a map of its location in relation to the other forts, the armament, its history, garrison, etc. The book mentions that development in the 1970's destroyed all traces of the fort.

Let me know if you need further information.

Just noticed in fine print at the end of an article the authors wrote in the current CWPT magazine "Hallowed Ground", Vol 9, no 3, that the book "is currently being updated and revised for republication".
